It does sound like fun!One question. . . For the Circular bonus do I repeat one city as the first and last stop?
Book 1 Start in Denver (maybe read book whose author has initials DE)
Read 8 books meeting requirements
Book 10 read another book for Denver. ( maybe initials NE)

Yes, that's correct. The other 8 would be all different cities, so you are reading for 9 different cities altogether, on the Circular route.
You could read a second book by the same author for the second Denver stop if you liked. You just need to read at least 5 different authors over the 10 books.

Thanks! Just wasn’t quite sure.
Connie wrote: "Does the Lexile rule apply to the subchallenge (and also the RwS challenge) during the winter?"Yes, books designated as "YA", "Assignment", or "Juv" by the Brooklyn Public Library with a Lexile score less than 700 (or with no Lexile score) are not allowed for the subchallenge.
Those books will be allowed for tasks in the main challenge, but without extra points for styles.
I love this challenge, i'm a big fan of boardgames but I especially love ticket to ride, so very excited for winter callenge !
Initials for these authors:Ursula K. Le Guin = UKLG
Charles de Lint = CDL
R. Garcia y Robertson = RGYR
L.E. Modesitt Jr. = LEMJ
Do I have that correct?
and ...
do books with more than one author count? Like:
The Last Theorem written by a collaboration of
Arthur C. Clarke and Frederik Pohl -- initials be ACC + FP ??
do anthologies count? and, if yes, is the editor's initials the one used?
Galaxy Awards 1: Chinese Science Fiction Anthology edited by Francesco Verso = FV
Thanks

The last one would be LEM, because Jr. is generally not part of a person's name, but a suffix (please remind us of this when you post). Otherwise yes, as you have them.
For books with more than one author, RwS always counts only the first named author. So The Last Theorem author initials would be ACC.
For anthologies, again the first author only. In the case that you gave, yes, it's the editor, FV. Other anthologies might not have an editor listed in that way, and then it would be whoever was first listed.

Thanks for the clarification. Now I can go start planning!!
Karen Michele wrote: "Are we to read our books in order for this one?"That is correct—you’re essentially building a train route. In order to get from, say, Los Angeles to Salt Lake City, you can’t just skip over Las Vegas…even though it’s on your “track” you’d have to read for LA, then LV, then SLC.
Thanks - I've got my route, but I might want to find a shorter book for my first city, Seattle, where right now I have Can You Forgive Her? @847 pages. Sometimes I get frustrated when I start with a long book;)

Thanks, I may do that. Another group I'm in is going to read the series and your recommendation over the years pushed me to finally give him a try this winter. I did read The Warden and his Christmas stories, and I enjoyed those two.

The first in the Palliser series that you have considered reading is perhaps the weakest of the 6 novels. If/when you choose to read it, I hope it won’t let it deter you from the rest.
And, a note. I haven’t been as involved in creating the Winter season as I have in season’s past, but I’m pretty sure that Can You Forgive Her? fits one of the 20-pointers.
Please would everybody be sure to post the whole of your route so far when claiming 15.2 and subsequent stops?Like the example in the sample post or a plain list or however you want to do it, but if you don't do this, we can't be sure of spotting errors in your route until we check your finish - and it would be sad to find out at the end that your route didn't work!
