Would you recommend this book? Yes, although as far as the poetry I've read this was not one of my favorites.

Brown Girl Dreaming...super excited to read since I found out my favorite poem is from this book.

I read 1919 by Eve L. Ewing. It's a book of poetry about race riots in Chicago in 1919. Some were very powerful, others I didn't quite get. I really liked how the author incorporated a contemporary report into each poem to give some history of the event.

I also finished this on audio in February.

Would you recommend this book? Yes, overall, although I didn't quite get all of the poems.

I would recommend getting a print copy to read alongside the audio if you're going that route, as I found it hard to follow some of them poems on just audio.

Author: Mary Oliver
Recommend: Yes, I think I ended up giving it 3 stars, but I'm not a huge poetry person, so probably didn't connect as much as others may.

Title: Epekwitk: Mi'kmaq Poetry from Prince Edward Island
Author: Julie Pellissier-Lush
Would you recommend this book? Yes, even the English rendering is not as powerful as the Mi'kmaw. Julie's poems give a vibrant sense of what it feels like to be Mi'kmaw. She also has poems that focus on our folklore and on our mythos. The technical merit isn't very present in English, and I so wanted it to be. However, I still found the translated version a powerful worthwhile read.

Author: Amanda Rachelle Warren
Would you recommend this book? Yes, although I am not sure that I understood all the poems. Still as I read each one, I got a sense overall through the writing and use of language of the time and space the poems inhabited...and I liked that.
