15.4 Feed the Birds
21st Dec is National Robin Day, which aims to raise awareness of small birds and other wildlife in winter and how you can help them through this tough time of year. The RSPB organise "The Big Garden Birdwatch" every January, where ordinary people are encouraged to spend an hour in their garden, park etc to record the birds they see & hear.

OPTION 1: read one book A & one Book B
OPTION 2: Read ONE book that fulfills both requirements

a) Read a book with a bird on the cover
The bird may be sketched, outline, silhouette or realistic but must be identifiable as a bird with a significant portion of wing and either beak or feet visible
Required: Post the cover
Examples: A Murder of Crows (Nell Ward, #1) by Sarah Yarwood-Lovett Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen Eagle Strike (Alex Rider, #4) by Anthony Horowitz

b) Read a book where ALL of the author's initials are found in ONE of the following most common British garden birds, according to the Big Garden Birdwatch 2020:
House sparrow
Starling
Blue tit
Woodpigeon
Blackbird
Goldfinch
Great tit
Robin
Long-tailed tit
Magpie
(you cant take for instance B from Blue tit & W from woodpigeon, initials must be found in one bird)
Where a book has multiple authors, the initials of ALL the authors must appear in the same bird and can only be used as often as they appear in the bird name.

Yes, I will amend the tasks to state that multiple authors where all initials appear in the same bird can be used.

Endless Night by Agatha Christie

(I actually own two copies of this book, but the Fontana editions are my preferred collection, unless I can get the earlier Pan editions. I probably have at least 25 books from the Fontana printings.)

I don't generally read graphic novels, but because of another personal challenge, I am trying an advent of 1 graphic novel per day this month. I have read the rules several times for Graphic Novels, but I would still like to make sure that this book would work for the one book option. I also may be making similar posts in other threads until I understand the different varieties of the genre better.

Breakwater by Katriona Chapman by Katriona Chapman
bird is on the cover and the author initials are both in Blackbird

Great idea for an advent challenge! In general you can use a graphic novel for the 5/10/15pt tasks as long as it is a minimum of 100 pages. For 20/25/30/50pt tasks, you will need to check the task description as they are not always permitted,

Katrisa | 1455 comments Does an author that only uses one name so only had one initial - like Rumi - work? And also translators don't count as authors right?

Translators do not count as authors
From the Default Rules and FAQs - updated Fall 2020
3. If a task call for author's initials, can I use an author who uses only one name?
If the task does not specify, the author must use two or more names.

So in this case, we would expect that the author would have 2 initials,

Deedee | 2348 comments The two books for "bird on cover" I'm looking at are:
Blue In Search of Nature's Rarest Color by Kai Kupferschmidt Three-Day Town (Deborah Knott Mysteries #17; Sigrid Harald #9) by Margaret Maron
Would they fit? Thanks

Although Blue In Search of Nature's Rarest Color by Kai Kupferschmidt doesn't have a wing on it, it is unmistakably a peacock so we will allow this as the tail is far more distinctive than the wing! The second book is absolutely fine
