Congrats! That's a great find.

The red/orange cover with the skulls buried in the road! I remember buying it when I was 16 in an airport.

Just scored a 1985 first edition hardcover of the Bachman Books, in pristine condition, for $13.00usd, I'm soooooo excited! Have never read any of these or the prelude where King explains why he wrote as Richard Backman. This book has been on my wish list for years,
My reading queue is crammed right now but this one is destined for the front of the queue....let's get started!
I have to admit that I don't know what the deal is with Rage, can someone explain it to me, please?
I have a hardback edition of The Bachman Books from 1986 that includes Rage as well as the intro from SK as to why he was Bachman. I don't know what it cost as it was a birthday present & there isn't a price printed on the book anywhere.
What I did notice is that it was printed by The Garden City Press, Letchworth, Herts, UK. Letchworth is the town I used to live in for the first 23 years of my life.

As far as I know, there was a furor over Rage because it was about student violence -- shooting a teacher, in fact -- from the point of view of the student... presenting him as almost a sympathetic character. And the problem was compounded when a school shooter was found to have a copy in his locker after a shooting. I don't know all the details, unfortunately. King withdrew the book from publication himself after that.

After a mass shooting at a school by a student a copy of Rage which is about this topic was found in the shooter's locker. As a result King decided to pull it from any future editions. I've read it and I can understand why he did this. After all, when he wrote about Mailbox Baseball in Stand By Me there was a rash of toppled mailboxes across America.

Okay, thanks for the replies & explanation. Does that make the copy I have valuable? Only out of curiosity, not thinking of selling it.

I've always thought that King withdrew Rage from circulation on advice of his lawyers to limit his liability from future civil litigation from survivors from a shooting. He was probably wise to heed the advice.

Not enough to retire on. Copies of The Bachman Books that include Rage are selling for about a hundred to four hundred dollars. Of the four original Bachman books, Rage is commanding a much higher price that the other three. Into the thousands of dollars. Now, these are the paperbacks that were sold as written by Richard Bachman before anyone knew that he was King.

Cheers for that Michael, interesting to see what it's worth. Makes sense how much the original standalone book is now worth.

Still have my paperback copy of the four Bachman books with Rage included. I believe it was a Christmas present one year.
