Martha (marthas48) | 771 comments Well, here we go again. I admit I have not given this any thought so I did something simple.

Didn't want to spend much time on it so I'm using the alphabet for authors' names (either first or last) & choosing a book I own already mostly. I'll need to rely on the library for 2 or 3 unless I change some before the end of the year. Most, if not all, are needed for other challenges.

Simple is good. Some authors I need to get back to, like Lee Child, CJ Box, Nesbo, PD James, Craig Johnson.. Enjoy

I loved The Snowman - have you read any of the other Harry Hole books?

I have to get back to the Harry Hole series. Not sure if I have time to get one or two before the end of the year. I've been quite flaky with my reading energy. Oh well.

I hope you enjoy your reads for 2024. Good luck, Martha! ☺️

message 5: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 1127 comments Nice way to get a head start on other challenges. Good luck.

message 6: by Ioana (new)

Ioana | 2208 comments This time of the year is very dangerous, seeing what everyone else is reading, seeing so many new titles....and your list is no different. I've only read Lessons in Chemistry and I was not a fan, but so many others on your list sound interesting, I'm afraid for my TBR. Happy reading, can't wait to hear your thoughts on them.

All great authors! Right now my favorite of the group is Craig Johnson. When I read through the ones I bought for Jerry I'll have to get more. That's a good thing!

Yes, I've read all up to this one. Harry is his own worst enemy, but I love to read of his trials. LOL

Hope you get your reading energy back. I had quite a slump recently, but seem to be through it. Still not crocheting though.

Thanks, Jackie. I'm always behind on challenges so tried to focus on that, too without spending much time on the list.

Isn't it the truth?! So many great books out there! One of my Special Olympics athletes works in a thrift shop and brings me books. So sweet, but if she could see my bookcase!!! I gave her some things I had crocheted in her favorite colors.

Me too; at least for novel length books. I read a ton of short stories and novellas this year, and enjoyed most of them. I just need to make time for reading like I used to.

I think being emotionally exhausted is a thing. Doing anything that requires extended length of emotional or mental time is just too much. *sigh*

So true. I think after all my worry over the B's gastro issues the last couple of years to be calmly told he might have an aneurysm was just too much. Thank God he doesn't, but he's still having occasional headaches & I'm exhausted. It's nice to escape into a book again.

I just read Nesbo's The Night House. It has mixed reviews, but I liked it.

Being emotional exhausted is absolutely a thing. I hope 2024 is a less stressful year and you enjoy your reading!

Yyeesss. It's very exhausting. I'm glad he's doing better and an aneurysm is not an issue.

Take your time Martha. 🤗

The only 1 I've read is The Snowman which got me into the Harry Hole series. I'd definitely recommend it!

Martha (marthas48) | 771 comments I'm changing the 5th book - letter E to one by Erica Ruth Nuebauer. Can't find my copy of the E. J. Copperman book.

I'm not familiar with the series. I'll check out your comments

Martha (marthas48) | 771 comments I’m not either, Bill. Must have been an ebook special.

3 more minutes & I can start one of my 2024 books!! Seeing the new year in by watching a classic horror movie - The Birds.

message 25: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 1127 comments The Birds was totally scary when I watched it MANY years ago!

message 26: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) | 771 comments So scary!! It was ‘63 & I was a freshman or sophomore in high school. Love Tippi Hedren!

Martha (marthas48) | 771 comments That’s a great one, Bill! I love the AC movies.

I’m starting this challenge with Daisy Darker as it’s a hardback & I’m trying to get books out of the house. I’ve also ordered one of my library selections so I’ll have it in a week or so.

message 29: by Linette (new)

Linette | 183 comments Oh, I see some Walt Longmire on your list - I'm just loving listening to that series in audiobooks, they are even better than the show.
Jo Nesbo and PD James, two of my favourites.
I have Murder at Mena House in my stack of books to read this year, looks good. Hope we like it!

Martha (marthas48) | 771 comments Finished my 2nd book Takes One to Know One by Susan Isaacs ... a new author for me. I wasn't overwhelmed, but would consider another book by this author.

message 35: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) | 771 comments 3rd book completed Murder at the Mena House by Erica Ruth Neubauer I did like this one enough to read more by her.

I need to read Deadly Secrets for the February color challenge so I tried to order through interlibrary loan and couldn't locate it. Checked Kindle and it's free right now. Happy coincidence!

message 37: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) | 771 comments I've finished 2 more this month ... Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Crime (Pennsylvania Dutch Mystery, #2) by Tamar Myers & Deadly Secrets (Mapleton Mystery #1) by Terry Odell
Both are decent cozy mysteries. 3 stars each

Martha (marthas48) | 771 comments Denise wrote: "What's your favorite cozy series, if you have one?"

At the moment most anything by Rhys Bowen. My favorite of her 3 series that I'm reading is the Molly Murphy Mysteries. The other other 2 by her that I like are Constable Evans and Her Royal Spyness Mysteries. I'm always reading one by her lately. LOL

Another wonderful series is the Gaslight Mystery by Victoria Thompson

The Gaslight series is very good.

Martha (marthas48) | 771 comments Sadly Victoria Thompson who wrote the Gaslight Mystery series passed away year. Such a great storyteller.

I finished my 6th book Open Season. Really good. I doubt I finish 12, but maybe 2 or 3 more. Will see.

That's halfway through; that's still good, Martha. I struggled too.

I also have Open Season on my tbr. Glad you liked it. :)

That's so sad about Victoria Thompson, Martha. The Gaslight series has been so entertaining. She passed some joy to people who enjoy a good book. At least I still have quite a few of the series left to read.

message 45: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) | 771 comments So do I, Bill. And she has another series that starts with City of Lies. If I’m right she had written some stand-alones also. Well, I believe I’m done with this year. I am reading a bit more, but can’t seem to finish anything. On to next year’s list Wednesday morning.
