We weren't given an answer to this story thread. Near the end of the book, Finn did mention to Peyton that he has nightmares. I didn't know if that was a warning, or if he thought he would sleep better when he was with her.
I think the nightmares were one of the excuses Finn was using to justify not being with Peyton. He had seen and experienced things that she could not understand or relate to.
This was not explored and is a missed opportunity for the reader to see the relationship grow deeper.
I wanted more information. He did mention that he didn't understand why that case caused the nightmares. I wonder if it was one of the things that lead to problems with his ex. Nightmares happen with a lot of law enforcement people especially the horrific homicide cases. I remember one episode of Homicide Hunter, Kendra mentioned that he rarely slept through the night. He also said he didn't share his nightmares with his wife because he didn't want those pictures in her head too.
