Great review. I have read this book 3 or 4 times, discussed it in two different book groups and it is still one of my favorites. We have argued about the ending and that is one of the things that is wonderful about this book. Lehane is a great mystery writer - if you liked this, you will like some of his other books. Thanks for the review. peace, janz

Mystic River stands out in my mind - somewhat like Shutter Island in that some things are rarely explained. But he always writes good books. You really can not miss. And If you liked this book with the mystery at the end, you might enjoy "In the Lake of the Woods" by Tim O'Brien. One of my favorite mystery books. Good reading. peace, janz

What truly stood out for me was the captivating writing style – a delightful blend of humor, sorrow, and intriguing, even instructive moments. The main character (view spoiler)[whose real name I'm still not sure about (hide spoiler)] was someone I found quite appealing (view spoiler)[even though it may sound creepy, considering the ending (hide spoiler)]. What set this book apart for me was the author's ability to craft a sinister atmosphere without relying on mystical elements. The tension stemmed purely from the vividly depicted situations, making it a standout read.
