When You Are Old was written when yeats was young, and it was for a woman to read when she was older, to consider her beauty and how she was admired in her youth.
The Wild Swans at Coole was written when Yeats was much older, and it was a personal poem. Here he writes about the swans at a lake, which he visited for nineteen years. And each year he observed and counted the swans. He compared the swans with his own personal love life: swans mate for life, but here he was getting older and older and still was alone. There was a woman in his life, but I don't know what happened to her; but it was apparently a burden to him.
Of all the Yeats' poems, I think there was only one that really impacted me. Poems about nature are my preferred. Most of the poems by Yeats that I read seemed to be about nature, mystical ideas, and old age.
Now that I am done with Yeats, I am going to take a break and will start again in January reading the last poets on TWEM list.
