Hi, one is a hardcover, the other a paperback, so neither of them can be merged (deleted). They are already combined (grouped together).

Then I think something is wrong with the structure of the underlying database or the way it is shown to Goodreads members. If I mark the book as being read, I would not want to come across it and it being shown as not read, since I keep track of what I have read. Wouldn't it be better to show the book once and then have all the editions on that page? This way it is very confusing, because I don't see any difference between the editions.

It should work the way you describe as the editions already are combined, and have been for several months.
