Book Lair discussion

I finished this book maybe a week ago but it has stayed with me so I decided to create this topic, in case someone eventually gets to it.

It's not a perfect book, or I would have given it 5 stars. But it is so different from what is out there that I really wanted to throw this out here.

Some of the things that really appealed to me:

(view spoiler)[- The main character, Emelyn, is not your typical angsty, rebellious teen. She is actually very polite and responsible. It was such a refreshing change for me.

- The transition from a perfectly normal life to a magical one is done beautifully.

- The magical creatures are completely inovative. How they came to be is incredible as well.

- I don't think I had ever read a book where a pretty important secondary character disappears and is not reencountered.

- I love that there aren't clear good or bad guys.

- I also loved that Emelyn has a way with animals but they didn't lose their inate characteristics, they didn't turn to pets in her hands.

- There is no romance, yay! (hide spoiler)]
