How to Participate:

The Audiobook Challenge is designed to not only help you to read your audiobooks, but to also find out about other great audiobooks from other challenge participants!

Though you may pop in/out at any time, the Audiobook Challenge will run on a monthly basis so you are able to see progress being made.

There are no minimum page requirements, and you can read abridged or unabridged audiobooks!

1. At the beginning of the month, post :
a: How many audiobooks in total you want to read for the month
b: How many audiobooks in the monthly category you want to read
c: Post the audiobooks (as you decide on them) by linking them to Goodreads in your post

2. During the month, read the audiobooks that you can AND update your post with your reviews. (You can do this after each book or wait until the end of the month.)

3. At the end of the month, update your post and with:
a: What books you read
b: Link(s) to your review(s) - note: can only be linked to Goodreads and not an external site
c: How many audiobooks you have read for this challenge this year

Then start a new post for the next month!

~ Monthly Audiobook Challenge ~

Each month we will have a different theme of audiobook for you to listen to.
Read one, two, three, or thirty. Up to you! Just post at the start of the month which books you will read in the category, update through the month and post a link to your Goodreads review (no links to external sites).

Let's find some great audiobooks together!

Duration: Monthly

January 2024 Theme:

◈ Dramatizations
Abridged audiobooks with background music/noises like the “old school” radio plays (e.g. BBC Radio Drama Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett or Clean Sweep). Also known as “Performance” audios, if you’re doing a search.

MY MONTHLY RECOMMENDATION (and why):
Sweep in Peace (Innkeeper Chronicles, #2) by Ilona Andrews because it was the first full cast dramatisation I had tried for the series and it was an interesting way to read the book.
I did the next one as well the same way, but I think I will finish the series with the 'regular' audio

Vikings! Scandinavians Who Shaped the World by Scott McCormick - 4 stars

Books not in category:6
Greenglass House by Kate Milford - 4 stars
Saxons vs. Vikings Alfred the Great and England in the Dark Ages (The Very, Very Short History of England Series) by Ed West - 3 stars
1066 and Before All That The Battle of Hastings, Anglo-Saxon, and Norman England (The Very, Very Short History of England Series) by Ed West - 3 stars

Like this short "horrid histories" series by Ed West for "people in a hurry". Currently most of them are included in the US Audible Plus catalogue for free.

On the other hand, that's a perfectly good green cover and with UNO so close... In which case, I may try one of the Graphic Audio Kate Daniels books.

Interesting!
It was my least favourite of her books - mainly because the tennis matches in audio were really repetitive. Maybe that style would therefore work better

With Baited Breath
Really highlights the difference between Space Marines and Imperial guard, shows that respect can be earned despite their differences and is a short story that can really highlight the bravery, devotion to the emperor and desolation of 40k. Beautifully put together by the black library to do a full feast for your ears, as long as you are ready for battle!

Not in category
An Adventure Brewing (Beers and Beards #1) by JollyJupiter
An Adventure Brewing
LITRPG, bad beer, dwarves, fights and liberal use of beard humour. It is fun, easy read and with enjoyable characters, even if the MC is occasionally a know it all. Though they also call him out on it.

Finished the full cast of Sweep in Peace (Innkeeper Chronicles, #2) by Ilona Andrews , thanks for the rec. Mel!
I actually like the different voice actors, it is just the background noises/music can be distracting sometimes. I also had the ebook and was following along to see the differences, and they are really minor. Some paras get swapped around or a sentence may lose an article. I kind of like that it is edited to work better on audio 🤷‍♀️

I've decided to try the same for book 3

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13543 comments The one I'm currently reading almost fits the category. Only it's not an abridged version of a previously existing book. It's a full audio of the book, with different authors for different POVs, but there are sections throughout the book that are part of a podcast. These sections have multiple narrators and sound-effects (thankfully not much in the way of music, just the occasional note or two).

It's an interesting listen so far (not very far in yet), and certainly not as irritating as I usually find the sound-effect types, lol.

Like this short "horrid histories" series by Ed West for "people in a hurry". Currently most of them are included in the US Audible Plus catalogue for free.

None. I only listened to one, and hated it! But I had read the book itself before (Elantris) and that was a 5 star, so I can't blame the book, lol.
Dramatisations just aren't for me. Especially not when they have music!

Not in Category:

The Malevolent Seven by Sebastien de Castell - All kinds of fun! Really enjoyed this book very much.

😂 well done for trying!
Elantris is a great read - I hope it didn't ruin your memory of it

End of Month
Total audiobooks read this year: 6
Audiobooks in monthly category read: 2

MY MONTHLY RECOMMENDATION (and why):
Sweep in Peace (Innkeeper Chronicles, #2) by Ilona Andrews because it was the first full cast dramatisation I had tried for the series and it was an interesting way to read the book.
I did the next one as well the same way, but I think I will finish the series with the 'regular' audio
