TerryJane | 4362 comments DRAGON SPELLS
Duration: February 1 - February 29, 2024

But it is one thing to read about dragons and another to meet them.
- Ursula K. Le Guin, A Wizard of Earthsea

Dragons are often depicted as huge, scary fire-breathing monsters with wings, claws and scales. But in many Asian cultures, the dragon is considered a friend to humanity. In Chinese culture, it is the token of authority, dignity, honor, success, luck, and capacity.

As the Year of the Dragon begins this month, you are invited to celebrate by spelling out your favorite dragon name(s) for this challenge. You may use the first letter of any main word in your books title (omitting a, an, the, etc.) and/or the author's initials.

Example: Spelling out Puff, the dragon of song, television, and picture book fame.
P - Pride and Prejudice
U - Once Upon a River
F - The Griffin's Feather
F - The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Many thanks to Carmen, who suggested this challenge and will be its leader.

Hola, lovely people! 🙋🏻‍♀️
According to Chinese cosmology, each year is ruled by a zodiac animal, and the Year of the Dragon is one of the most revered and auspicious within this twelve-year cycle. The Dragon, considered a symbol of power, prosperity and good fortune, prepares to preside over the year 2024, bringing with it a special and significant energy for millions of people around the world.

The Dragon is one of the most revered animals and represents strength, bravery, wisdom and success. Often associated with royalty and power, the Dragon's presence is believed to bring blessings of good luck and great opportunities.

Let's celebrate the Chinese New Year spelling the names of our favorite dragons! 🐉🐲

Please, let me know how many dragons you want to spell, I'm looking forward to leading you all in another exciting challenge!!!

Popular choice and the one I kept thinking of. However I can't make it with the books I have, so went to Temeraire (I've read all but the last of these), and there are many dragons in Temeraire, including Lily (only 4 letters.)

I wanted to do this since I love this suggestion, but am doing a year long team game and the books that fit that one don't spell any dragon I know if without using author names. I even found a list that names all of the dragon names for many of the Temeraire books, but not as far as when they went Australia and South America (different books), etc, but to no avail. I wish I'd saved the link.

I also thought of Smaug since 3 of the letters are a piece of cake, but it didn't work.

It seems Smaug is stealing the show, but any dragon is welcome to our February Fest!

@Karin, you can use author's names for the spelling too.

February - Dragon Spells
Duration:
February 1 - February 29, 2024

Progress: 6 out of 6
