Maggie Anton | 42 comments My daughter-in-law's grandparents' family were expelled from Bagdad in 1949, along with eight siblings and many more cousins. They came to Israel, where most of their descendants still live, but some ended up in the US. I'm eager to read this book to learn more about their experience, especially since her maiden name is Shamas.
My local library doesn't have a copy but Amazon has used ones for less than $2.

This is the discussion site for January's poll winner, the memoir The Strangers We Became.

Maggie beat me to the punch, so I've just used the folder she started (although for consistency I changed the title of the discussion.
She said the book could have been about her family!

I see I stopped above in mid-sentence. Meant to say I've read a memoir/history called Farewell, Babylon: Coming of Age in Jewish Baghdad. I had a couple of others lined up but didn't get to them.
