2024 Reading Plans

My "plan" is to catch up on the books on my bookshelves here at the house. My husband keeps telling me they are overtaking the house that I need to throw some out (but I haven't read them yet). We all know that isn't true, because books never take over the house. So I am going to stick to the challenges I know I can clear some of those out with. Save the Hidden Gems and Pick for Me challenges for non-bookshelf reads. We will see how I do, here is crossing fingers.
So many reading plans for the year! I've realized that I really love action, survival books, fantasy and science fiction. This year I want to focus on what I enjoy, even if it isn't as popular. Some of my goals include:*Complete four authors
*When finding books to complete challenges, pull from my already own personal library
*Finish at least 6 series
*Focusing on books that fit within the challenges to complete them each month
*Do more buddy and group reads, because I really enjoy reading alongside others!
I also want to read more from the books I already own! I also plan to do a Reading Hall of Fame challenge at the elementary school where I work. I would need to read 50 books from different genres by the end of May. I do it each year, hoping to inspire my students to participate as well.
Other Goals (Updates added 12/31/24)
🚫NOPE *Reread the rest of the AD Chronicles Series by Bodie & Brock Thoene
✅*Reread Lord of the Rings trilogy
✅*Read at least 6 nonfiction books
✅*Keep up to date with challenges: ABC/123, Electronic Reader, 2024 Completed Series
✅*Read through the Bible in a year again with my husband and daughter. We use the M'Cheyne plan, which I like more than chronological plans.

My books take up a lot of space, and I really should start READING them. I'm sure I'll probably donate many of them once I finish.
Reading Goals for 20241. Read each month 5 from my TBR list (3 from top & 2 from bottom), 5 from Kindle, 5 from shelves (if series find rest), and 2 Biblical fiction
2. Each month finish 2 series missing only 1 book.
3 Use only books from my TBR list, Kindle and shelves: library if needed.
4. Limit new books from Netgalley and focus on owned.
Read 52 bookstry audiobooks (I have a bit but not much)
clear out books i'm not going to read again
get a library card as i've moved recently
Read more widely than the same types of books all the time
Read 75 BooksRead at least 50 books off of my own bookshelf(I own a ton of books I have not read yet)
Finish all the series I started last year
Finish my Netgalley ARCs
Read my Bible everyday
Read a couple books a week to my daughter
Lastly, have fun! I put a lot of pressure on myself last year as I set my reading goal a little high. This year I set it lower so I don't do that to myself again.
COUNT: For 23 I will finish 65 books, and going into 24 will start out with 2 per month. I prefer to beat goal v. chasing goal. I can always increase the challenge as the year moves along.CHALLENGES: I signed up for the Monthly, and Genre Match so far. And looking for the one I saw described a while ago with branches and trees and leaves. And maybe the dice adventure one. Any more than those might be confusing for me, but as year progresses and I feel confident, I see a few others I’d like to do too…. Then there are a few I will naturally achieve like Audio and Ebooks, since that is my go-to.
GOAL: Just have fun and enjoy a good book.
1. Try to stick to 3 review books a month2. Read one book I already own a month.
3. Limited the challenges - especially the annual ones.
4. Plan as little as possible and read what I want to.
I've been giving this lots of thought, in the past I have not set reading goals for a year (outside of an overall count since joining GR) but just read books as they catch my attention. However, this year I decided to set some:1. Try and only do challenges that fit my usual reading habits OR ones that will challenge me to explore new areas of interest.
2. Try and finish most of the series that I started in the last year.
3. Read through the Bible in one year with friends and family.
4. Work on my planned in-depth study of the Old Testament
5. Read more by the new authors I really liked that I found in 2023
6. Continue to find and explore new authors - at least 40
7. Read more Biblical fiction
8. Explore classics and non-fiction books
9. Explore some young adult books
10. Have fun and enjoy the books I find
My reading plan is to 1 complete as many challenges as I can.
2 Read from these NTM authors; Gabrielle Meyes, Melissa Tagg, Carrie Fancett Pagels, Naomi Rawlings, Marybeth Skwarczyski. I will read from more NTMs but chosen these to make sure I read from them.
3. Complete the Grant Horner read the Bible in a year plan.
4. Enjoy what I am reading, if I don't like the book just quit! don't push through.
I am going to try and read more of the books I own (physical and e-reader) than books from the library. This past year I read 169 books, with 104 from the library. I want the next year end to have higher percentage of books I own and less from the library. I also want to read a lot of books from my tbr lists and buy less books.
Love reading all your plans!
My plans including completing series already started and there are a few others I've been meaning to get to for a while and haven't. Look forward to another great year of reading!

So, I ended up putting a lot of pressure on myself to finish completing an author for a complete the author challenge and while I normally enjoy that author found myself a little burnt out from reading them and that specific genre. So, I'm not saying I won't do challenges, but I'm so goal oriented that it's very hard for me not to finish a goal once it's been set. (I ended up completing 10 authors for that challenge and one of the authors required reading about 30 books, most of which I did in the last 2-3 months...) With all that in mind, for 2024 my plan is:
1. Read the entire Bible in chronological order with my church family
2. Increase my non-fiction reads.
3. Enjoy the books I read for fun!
4. Read a variety of fictional genres that I enjoy.
5. Read books that I already own on my bookshelf and that have been on my TBR list for awhile.
After thinking about it for the past week, I think I've come up with my 2024 goals:1) Read all my historical books covering the time period 1700-1774 in preparation for America's 250th.
2) Concentrate on reading books from my TBR piles.
3) Either listen to my daughter read aloud or read aloud to her at least three nights a week.
4) Resist trying to reach the entire goal for challenges like the cover challenge and instead only see which ones I happen to get. Also skip 50 States again this year.
5) Choose a devotional to read every night instead of reading through the Bible this year.
I plan to read more books for myself now that we are finished homeschooling. I truly miss homeschooling this year, but this is helping to take my mind off of it a little.
I know several others in the group are also working towards similar goals, Christina. You are in good company, and might enjoy checking out the 'Book Buyers' Therapy' threads!
