kate henderson okay- very important question here! do you like to break the spine of your book?

personally, i’m breaking every spine in sight. i like my books to look well worn and read so my bookshelf doesn’t have a superficial feeling to it 😭

mona ♡ (showgirl edition) (mona_tv) i used to break mine all the time but now i try not to because it makes the paper on the spines fall off and look really worn down

Nigella [Semi-Hiatus] (usershow132795844-nigella) I do! Books feel weird after the spine gets broken. They don't feel even anymore.
:(

message 9: by kaylin ౨ৎ (new)

kaylin ౨ৎ I depends on what the spine looks like tbh and the length of the book bc if the book is super long I want to be able to hold it comfortably yk?

message 10: by karissa m (new)

karissa m | 15 comments Yes breaking the spine is so satisfying but I like to have my books looking clean so I only do it on books that I don't care much for.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

message 22: by ❥ sofia (new)

❥ sofia | 6 comments idk...sometimes i do break the spines and other times i would never touch my babies; usually i'd break the spine if it was my fav book that im reading again the second time and annotating like a mad lady!! lol!

message 23: by Chloe (new)

Chloe | 7 comments i don’t really mind UNLESS someone else does it for me, then i’m pissed bc like h ruined a book that was mine to read and ruin while i’m reading, for example on my birthday, my brother took a gift, the boom thief and gave it this massive break in the spine bc “he was trying to break it in half” but otherwise if it breaks while i’m reading it then i don’t mind

Artemis~Ebonie (Inactive) | 45 comments I don't try to but I'm not against it. I have my brother's copy of one of the Magnus Chase books and its spine is super worn down but I think it gives it some character. Still, I won't purposefully.

message 25: by Wilma (new)

Wilma | 4 comments mostly yes, it makes reading more comfortable

message 27: by Annie (new)

Annie Rose | 5 comments most of the time yes, unless it’s just too pretty to break

message 29: by kai ✫꩜ (new)

kai ✫꩜ there is a certain type of paper back that you cant not crack and it makes me mad 😭 but there is a specific texture paperback that is so hard to crack and i try to be gentle w them anyways

disa⸆⸉ ౨ৎ | 7 comments YES I hate reading hard backs just because I can’t crack the spine. one of my fav things about starting a new book is when I get to crack the spine🙏🙏🙏

keerit 🪩🍒🪐🩰💌🌷 (organizing bookshelves) | 4 comments for me it’s like if they crack, they crack and if they don’t, they don’t 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

clelia (taylor’s version) i don’t really care about the aesthetic of the book, so i break the spine and just follow my comforts ahah 😅

message 33: by rae (new)

rae no, i hate cracked spines, but a lot of my middle-grade has cracked spines, since i didn't care then, but my YA is pristine! except for unravel me, because i tried to do the book hack where you make it easier to read and you don't crack spines but it backfired! i think it was because it is a UK version with a terrible spine and not floppy at all! which makes me mad. im replacing them with american versions and giving the uks to my friend.
