I need to read a book by a contemporary underrated writer for my 2024 reading challenge. Any recommendations?

I would go with really well written genre fiction. Genre writers are widely underrated, but if they do their job well they write books that are impossible to put down. I can offer two from romance fiction, both incidentally Austenesque: Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors by Sonali Dev, which uses a really fresh vocabulary for describing desire; and The Heiress: The Revelations of Anne de Bourgh by Molly Greeley, which interprets the boring Anne de Bourgh in a creative way and has an ending that will reduce you to jelly.
I really recommend 'The Mermaid of Black Conch' by Monique Roffey. This is that book that seems to have finally got her noticed - she writes so well!
I have heard of this book but haven't read it yet..It is definitely one for 2024 then! Happy New Year!
Hello everyone! Kindly give an indie writer a chance here 🥹
If you enjoy reading contemporary interracial romance, this is for you😊
