So the new TV show adaptation of this extremely popular book has officially aired 3 episodes now and I thought it would be fun to read the book alongside the show airing.

It’s up to you how you’d like to do this! You can read the whole book and then watch the show when all the episodes are out like I am planning on doing or you can read each chapter and then watch the episode adapting that chapter.

Either way please follow the rules on spoilers. Seriously!!
If you know me, you know I’m pretty chill, but I will get super mad if someone spoils this book or show or any of the other books in the series for other group members. Please keep in mind some people will be reading this book for the first time! And the show is new for everyone as well.

Rules for spoilers:
- All spoilers for this book snd any of the other books in the series or related series should be hidden in spoiler tags.
- All spoilers for the tv show should be hidden in spoiler tags.
- If you discuss the movie, please remember to hide anything that might spoil the book or show in tags as well.

*Please try sign posting your comment with “book” or “show” to indicate which you’re discussing if it’s not obvious*

i may or may not have reread this book like a week/two weeks ago in prep for the show (which so far i think has done SUCH a good job), but i’ll never turn down an excuse to read it again 😂

Haha a reread after only 2 weeks is dedication!! It’s been a couple of years for me since I last reread it and I’m interested in seeing if Percy still has that easy charm that I used to enjoy or if it comes across as childish now that I’m ancient (in my 20s and outside the demographic lol)
I’ve been seeing so many clips on Instagram of the new show and I’m just itching to watch it!

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments @kadi we’ll see if it actually becomes a reread when i try to start it 🤣 my brain will probably say no since it has been so recent.

for me at least, the nostalgia of the story is more than enough to keep the magic going — but it also definitely still has the occasional reminder that the writing IS intended for a lower reading level. and of course everyone responds differently to that, so it will be interesting to see if your opinion/feeling about it has changed!

Patricia Mae (patriciaflair) | 161 comments Happy New Year Everyone!!🥳🥳 December is a busy month for me and I guess this January too😅I already made plans for which books I will be reading this January and I already read Percy Jackson but I would love to hear other readers too if they like this book:)

@Jessica yes! That’s exactly why I’m looking forwarded to reading it again and seeing whether my reading experience has evolved since I last read it years ago.

Welcome to 2024 Patricia and Eden!🎉

@Patricia not to worry, I feel like this is the kind of book most people can join in with the discussion without having read the book recently because most have read it as some point. So join in with the discussion if you like!

@Eden why does Libby have a wait time? It’s an electronic copy, isn’t it? If your library has Hoopla too you could borrow it from there instead.

finn (frogadventures) | 105 comments Happy new year! 🥳

I’ve read book series twice, once when I was 10 and again a few years ago. I’ve loaned my copy of The Lighting Thief to a friend, and she’s a slow reader so I have no idea when I’ll get it back lol. So I might reread, might not. Either way, I’ll be watching the show as it comes out. I’ve watched the first 3 episodes, and I am IN LOVE!! It’s already sooooo much better than the movies. I hope they keep it going for the whole series as the actors grow older, like with the harry potter movies.

Best wishes to everyone with their reading and watching experience! :)

I’m going to start re reading this book tonight! I have a physical copy which I bought when I was a kid. I haven’t read a physical book in aeons so it’s going to be interesting to see if that affects my reading speed. I feel like not being able to make the text size bigger may impede on my speed (because I’m accustomed to large font sizes when I read on my phone or iPad) but we’ll see how much I manage to read in one sitting tonight.

@Finn it would be great if the show manages to continue on to adapt each book! My only worry is that it’s going to be difficult as it always is when working with kids because of how quickly they age.

I always said the movie (well, only the first one lol) was pretty good but their one major fault was that the characters were too old. I actually specifically remember having that conversation with my friends back in 2011 that if they made a tv show based on each of the books in the series with kids who are as old as the Harry Potter cast then it would be perfect. My friends were not convinced but who’s laughing now!! I feel like the oracle here😂

CraftyChara | 443 comments Do you know that it was the director of the movie Chris Columbus (Who also directed the first Harry Potter movie) idea to age up the characters? He didn't want to work with kids again.

EdenB15 | 403 comments Literally all the other books hv come through on libby except the first one smh and no i didnt know that

Arrash Mazdai | 3 comments I finished the book last week for the first time and I've posted a more in-depth review on my page but HOLY SMOKES how I loved it. It was great, perfect even. I loved all the crazy and creative shenanigans the characters go through which I hope will be translated faithfully into the adaption although I am on the fence on whether I should watch it since I hated the His Dark Materials tv show. Planning on reading the rest of the series and Rick Riordan's other books this year (Have most of them in my physical TBR). May I end this comment on one of the best book quotes ever to be penned... (view spoiler)
