This is fun! 1. "To Sir With Love"-Lulu - A May/December romance is what I'm going with here to tie the book Love and Ruin to this song. When Martha Gellhorn first met Ernest Hemmingway she is 28 and he is 39. They eventually marry but have a complicated relationship that fails in the end.
2 "The Letter"-The Box Tops - A secret letter plays a part in the climax of The Luxe.
3. "Ode to Billie Joe"-Bobbie Gentry - In
the two main characters meet because they are writing songs together. Before long the lyrics become odes to their blossoming relationship. 4. "Windy"-The Association - In Women's Diaries of the Westward Journey, the wind plays a big part in the experience, from dust storms to tornadoes.
5. "I'm a Believer"-The Monkees - This book follows the stories of five women, five friends, who have each dealt with various obstacles throughout their lives, but they never lost hope. Five Women
6. "Light My Fire"-The Doors - A fire is involved in the climax of First Lie Wins April 6
7. "Somethin' Stupid"-Frank & Nancy Sinatra - Using this title literally here for this one. Indeh: A Story of the Apache Wars shows the unwarranted violence of the Apache Wars with the U.S. during the time of westward expansion. Definitely could have been handled better.
8. "Happy Together"-The Turtles - Zhivago and Laura were always happy together but circumstances conspired to keep them apart in Doctor Zhivago
9. "Groovin'"-The Young Rascals - In The Lady and the Unicorn the artist who creates the vision for the tapestries that are at the center of this story is, indeed, a "rascal" who tries to bed nearly every woman in the story, and it is his "groovin'" with one character that saves her from the fate her parents have been forced to choose for her.
10. "Can't Take My Eyes Off You"-Frankie Valli - As this story opens, Jen is at a large picture window of her home anxiously awaiting her teenage son. It's almost his curfew when she sees him walking down the street, He stops short, then rushes towards a man walking his direction. Jen can't turn away, and she witnesses her son kill a man. This is how Wrong Place Wrong Time begins, so it seems fitting for this song.
