You may recall Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the daughter who was abused by her mother in possibly the worst case of Munchausen's by proxy and later murdered her mother. She is out of prison and is going to be on The View tomorrow (Jan. 5)

Koren wrote: "You may recall Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the daughter who was abused by her mother in possibly the worst case of Munchausen's by proxy and later murdered her mother. She is out of prison and is going t..."I just watched the View show about Gypsy Rose Blanchard. I didn't know until the end that she was promoting a show on Lifetime about her life. It is at least 5 episodes. I have 3 of them set to tape and will decide after I watch them if I want to tape them all. The episodes are repeated several times if you don't catch it the first time. I also see the Lifetime network has a show that interviews Casey Anthony's parents.

Has anyone watched that case?

I read a book about her and there really wasn't anything new, except that she got married to a guy that wrote her a letter in prison. After a while I got tired of listening to her baby voice. I wonder if her mother trying to keep her a child has anything to do with that. But then, I don't suppose anyone can help what their voice sounds like. She seemed very intelligent but came across as being a child/woman. I see she has her own book coming out.

Koren wrote: "Koren wrote: "You may recall Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the daughter who was abused by her mother in possibly the worst case of Munchausen's by proxy and later murdered her mother. I appreciate the documentaries that live in the gray area of life. They present the case and you, as the viewer, really don't know where to stand. Like real life, there are no true heroes or villains. I'm sick of hearing how a victim, "...lit up a room". For god's sake ladies, stop lighting up the damn rooms.

Examples include Transgender people as part of their transition. Entertainers have voice coaches all the time. Etc., etc., etc.
I've often said people like Justice Clarence Thomas' wife badly need a good voice coach (or maybe just to shut up. I'm Baaack....)

I've never heard Ginni Thomas say anything (luckily. For her) but the public figure I feel should hire a voice coach as Kamala Harris. She always sounds apologetic and ready to cry when she talks.
Fishface wrote: "Hari wrote: "Why yes, people can change how their voice sounds and how they talk. Examples include Transgender people as part of their transition. Entertainers have voice coaches all the time. Etc...."Yes, I've noticed the same thing.
Fishface wrote: "Hari wrote: "Why yes, people can change how their voice sounds and how they talk. Examples include Transgender people as part of their transition. Totally treatable, I've read.
An example is the aforementioned Gypsy Rose Blanchard.
Hari wrote: "Ginni Thomas has, to my ears, a condition called "puberphonia" wherein she sounds like a prepubescent girl in a bloated middle aged woman's body. Totally treatable, I've read."Sounds like you're telling her to "grow up, already" lol

Or, "shut up, already" would work too.
We now have exactly 15,000 books on our True Crime shelves.A few stats: We have a grand total of 1,015 individual shelves.
The biggest shelf is clearly Collected Crime Tales, full of items like True Crime Case Histories - (Books 1, 2 & 3): 32 Disturbing True Crime Stories and Wicked Ypsilanti, with well over 3,000 books.
Next up, not unexpectedly, is Serial Murder with over 1,800 books, followed by Sex Crimes, with over 1,300. A lot of those are the same titles, because most serial murders are sex crimes. But it also has rape cases and such.
The largest shelf devoted to a single case is -- again, not unexpectedly -- Jack the Ripper, with over 325 books, which probably only scratches the surface of the total titles out there, especially when you get into fictional adaptations of the story.
A couple of shelves have only 1 book each. Usually, I insist on there being at least 2 books about a case before I'm going to give it its own shelf, but I didn't create every shelf personally and in at least 1 case I made a shelf -- for Craig Price -- because I can never remember the dang title of the only book about him.
One strikingly incomplete shelf is She Was No Lady, devoted to female criminals. I just haven't had the patience to go through every single book and find out whether the fiend was a man or a woman, and of course there are those pesky unsolved cases. One day I may get to it (sigh!).
My co-worker is watching the livestream of Jennifer Crumbley's trial. They just called a recess after showing the footage of the Oxford High shooting from the school security cams and the defense atty claimed to be so upset, never having seen it before, that she needed to take a break and collect herself. The prosecutor pointed out that the defense counsel has in fact seen the footage before. So is she just being dramatic or does it really upset her that much? I wonder.Linky: https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/l...
Just removed Murder of a Mafia Daughter: The Life and Tragic Death of Susan Berman Hardcover – December 1, 2002 and replaced it with the 20th-anniversary revised and expanded version.
I just added a shelf for books written by criminals, called Criminals' Stories. Criminals' Manifestos, Etc is a separate shelf right above it because those are less autobiographical in my eyes. I was quite vexed trying to remember titles. Please feel free to suggest any books you know of written by someone who was convicted of something, or who got away with something!
I recently read Pimp by Iceberg Slim and Street Poison by Justin Gifford which is a good bio on the notorious pimp
Bill wrote: "I recently read Pimp by Iceberg Slim and Street Poison by Justin Gifford which is a good bio on the notorious pimp"Adding now, thanks!
I'd never heard of Rebecca Zahau ten minutes ago, but I stumbled across her and without even trying found 12 or 13 books on her murder. She now has her own shelf.
Fishface wrote: "Just removed Murder of a Mafia Daughter: The Life and Tragic Death of Susan Berman Hardcover – December 1, 2002 and replaced it with the 20th-anniversary revised and expanded version."I think the author for Murder of a Mafia Daughter is Cathy Scott???
Rita wrote: "I think the author for Murder of a Mafia Daughter is Cathy Scott???"Yes, that's correct Rita!
We now have 76 children's true crime books in our library. The one I added today is about Ted Bundy. America is a great country lol

Oh goodie!!!
So excited! Patty Wetterling, the mother of Jacob Wetterling and author of the book I am currently reading, Dear Jacob: A Mother's Journey of Hope, is going to be speaking at our local library in May! They live close to my husband's hometown and everyone in Minnesota knows the name of Jacob Wetterling, who was kidnapped and murdered when he was 11 and missing for over 25 years and his remains were finally found in 2016. Patty never gave up hope until they knew for sure that he was dead. She has become an advocate for missing children.

Paul Bern now has his own shelf. I saw SIX DEGREES OF HELTER SKELTER again the other night and the crime-scene photo of Bern in that room in what became Jay Sebring's house led me to conduct a search of Goodreads. I gather his unresolved death has been much discussed.
Just wondering what people think. Why do so many serial killers have humiliating names? Even the ones without girly-sounding names like Carroll Cole or Shelly Brooks tend to have other kinds of terrible names, like Peter Woodcock or Peter James Peters.

Makes you wonder if some of them besides having a messed up childhood kill because they're parents gave them such a humiliating name.

Fishface wrote: "Justin wrote: "Fishface wrote: "Just wondering what people think. Why do so many serial killers have humiliating names?
