Linda C (libladynylindac) | 1821 comments After burying her last remaining relation, Veronica Speedwell is looking forward to returning to her travels as a Lepidopterist, in search of butterflies. But she is accosted and in the process of being abducted when a German Baron comes to her rescue. He takes her to London to a friend, Stoker, who will protect her while he irons out some details before telling her about her background and why she was attacked. However, he is killed before that happens and she and Stoker are left to figure out what he knew and who killed him.

Veronica is a very outspoken scientist and Stoker is a mysterious, gruff, natural scientist. They argue continually and love the clashes. This was a great adventure with lots of plot twists. Looking forward to more in this series.

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 1821 comments I loved Veronica and Stoker's constant bickering and how it didn't put either of them off. They just enjoyed arguing!

One of the things I love most. One of my best friends and I have been bicering over everything since we met the first day of orientation in 1973. Author captures that type on commu icative bickering perfectly! Of course in the book, stoker and Veronica's has attraction layers too, but I love how at the end the author describes them walking along bickering away lightly with great pleasure.
