Anyone read the Fours Crossing series? I need another vintage juvenile series sitting on my shelves (=stacked on the carpet) like I need a hole in my head, but...

https://www.goodreads.com/series/6092...
Fours Crossing
Watersmeet
The Door Between

She's most famous for Annie on My Mind, and she's from Boston. I'm quite pleased to see Fours Crossing on OpenLibrary: https://openlibrary.org/works/OL50500...

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find book #2, Watersmeet.

The third is on IA: https://archive.org/details/doorbetwe... (The Door Between).

I can't even find Watersmeet on BookFinder, so when it comes up, it's going to be $$$, no doubt.

Has anyone read these? Worth going on the hunt for them? :)

Probably worth it. Go on. You know you want to.

I'll certainly keep it on my wishlist, but when they are THIS scarce, I've always just missed out by the time I get the email notification. :(

Probably going to have to wait until some blessed soul donates a copy to OL. :(

Abigail (abigailadams26) | 44 comments I used to own the first and third, in lovely condition (hardcovers, first edition), before they were wiped out by the flood which took out around half my collection, some years ago. Was waiting to read them, until I found "Watersmeet," but I never did.

Oof, that legendary flood of my nightmares. Do you know that I cannot look at a storage locker or container without immediately recalling your story?! Wretched.

That doesn't bode well for me, then. :( Funny that the middle book should be the hardest to get a hold of!

You never can tell. I operate on the theory than these things go in cycles. I've waited years to find certain books, pounced on the first copy to surface, and then seen that five more are for sale, within the next few months. Of course, there are also the ones that just don't surface... but hope springs eternal! :)

I checked for copies in BC's library system. Not a one. No doubt they had them and sold them off.

I'm really hoping for a reprint! Anyone know any of the small press places who might be interested? It seems a good one to do!

I just bought the second most recent reprint of the Abaloc series (beginning with Beneath the Hill) before it became unavailable again. It wasn't cheap, but I figured it was worth not kicking myself for years and years when I couldn't find it again. :)

But seriously - would it be worth my time to contact any of our beloved publishers specializing in out-of-print books? Any particular targets? (Know any in Boston?) :D

Thanks for looking, Sem. I'm not holding out any hope of finding one on this side of the Atlantic. :)

They're down for the count.

Ah. :( This happens fairly often, doesn't it? The publisher reprinting Bettina Ehrlich's stuff seems to have gone off-line as well... :S ( ‎For Pity Sake Publishing (Australia) - their website is gone, and their last FB post looks from Apr. 2021). :(

The person who runs Small Beer has long Covid and isn't accepting new submissions. In the case of Dean Street Press, the owner died unexpectedly. Small publishers hang by a thread.

Rainbowheart | 16 comments I haven't read that series, but Annie on My Mind is an old fave from childhood. Growing up, I also read Lark in the Morning, strictly realistic, and My Sister, the Vampire, which is just schlocky kid horror.

I went through her bibliography and was surprised to see a couple juvenile books I hadn't heard of, Peace O River and What Happened in Marston. She also wrote an adult lesbian romance, Nora and Liz. I think this was her only adult book.
