Continuing with the historical fiction trend, let's read and talk about All That is Solid Melts into Air. It's set in 1986, around the Chernobyl Disaster, and is supposedly "an astonishing novel of terrifying beauty that captures the end of an era."

Kayla Rayne (kaylarayne) Oh, this one sounds amazing! It would be nice to read a historical fiction that captures the events of such an interesting time period.

I'm pretty excited about this one! I don't think I've ever read a historical fiction book set in that time period, so I can't wait to see how it goes. I hope you get a copy as well :)

Jurgita (js_corwin) I've just started to read it on my way to work. I'm not sure if it's just me but I think the language is quite intricate. I'm quite enjoying it.

That's exciting! I looked through a few pages and the language does seem very nice.

Awesome! Can't wait to hear what you think! I'm going to be starting this as soon as I finish These Broken Stars, which should't take long at all.

Weird glitch! Hopefully the e-book doesn't have any issues :)
I'm starting this either today or tomorrow!

I just started it last night and I'm only about 20 pages in. Hopefully tonight I'll get a lot more read. You're not behind at all :)

Veronica (vblanc) Ok, I am going to be honest but I am 30% in and I don't think I can finish. I feel the story is so flat and characters. I mean I would rather read about the Chernobyl incident in a non-fiction book. But good news I got my hands on Stardust for May!!

I totally forgot to post on this thread! But I finished this book on Saturday and I have to agree with you. I gave it 3.5 stars. I finished, but to be honest there were parts that I really struggled. The parts that I loved were the ones where they actually described what was going on at Chernobyl. But... there was way less of that than I thought there should be. Basically I was disappointed. Hopefully next month our picks will be better!

Yea, I'm reading this right now and it's not very exciting. The writing is nice, but I'm not super interested in the plot just yet. I hope it gets better, but from what you guys are saying it doesn't lol.

Jurgita (js_corwin) So it's been a while I have finished it and I have some time to think about it. I think the book had so much more potential. I completely don't see a point of prodigy pianist boy's story line. Absolutely useless and quite unbelievable as character. I also had a problem with some descriptions of everyday life. I guess I haven't lived in Moscow, but at that time Lithuania was still part of Soviet Union.
I am leaving 4 stars because I absolutely love doctor's story line and descriptions of how the disaster evolved. It actually made me cry.

I have to agree, I didn't like the boy's story line either—the only person I actually cared about was Grigory. I would have preferred this book to just be about him—it would have been more focused that way.
