Melindam | 4435 comments One of the February 2024 Book of the Month is A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.

Please discuss here and remember to use spoiler tags as needed, as everyone reads at different speeds and may start at different times.

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world.

At least, he’s not a beast all the time.

As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

From bestselling author Sarah J. Maas comes a seductive, breathtaking book that blends romance, adventure, and faerie lore into an unforgettable read.

Ali Smith If you love fantasy and romance, this book is for you. It’s Beauty and the Beast (plot) meets Hunger Games (main character) in my opinion. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the next one.

Kendra Mcglothin | 19 comments I'm not sure about this series. I did read this book but she is a new author to me although my daughter has read this author for a while and likes this series and encourages me to continue the books. I did kind of like the ending.

message 8: by Serena (new)

Serena Smith I read this series last year and it really sent me in a spiral into fantasy!!! There will always be a special place in my heart for this series.

message 9: by Serena (new)

Serena Smith The books in the series are interconnected and the story gets so much better. This book isn’t my favorite of the series but my 3rd favorite.

Panda | 14 comments I read this book just a short time ago. I did enjoy this and the second book, however I didn't understand at the time that I picked it up that it was a romantacy series rather than a fantasy series.

While I do not regularly read romance series and have no issue with erotic literature, as the series progresses the erotic moves into the main plot and the character become vessels or objects to the main plot of the story, which ruins it for me and tarnished the series.

I think if I had just read this book and perhaps the second, I would have been happier with my choice to read it. There was definitely a lot of interesting, imaginative and exciting things to read. The world and character building of the first two books is decent, not perfect, but interesting and good.

If you enjoy fantasy, you will likely enjoy this book. The only thing that may be a turn off for some is the erotic scenes, although I honestly cannot recall if there were any in this book or if that started in the second. If they are in the first, there isn't a lot, the second book it heats up, but realistically the fantasy, the struggles, the darkness, the fight of the characters, all very good. I reviewed them right after my read if you are interested in my thoughts when they were fresh in my mind.

Overall it isn't a bad pick for a book club read. It's very popular and if your curious, now you have a reason to crack it open and take a look for yourself.

Sarah | 46 comments I read this book over the summer and definitely enjoyed it, so I look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts. I haven’t read the others in the series yet but they’re on my TBR pile. As others have said here the book is good and if you like fantasy it’s a fun read. I personally liked her first book in her other series Throne of Glass better. Definitely will continue to read both series.

Jamie (little_birdie) | 45 comments I just finished this book and thoroughly enjoyed it! Yep, another series on the to-read list.

✨️elisa✨️ I read all of the books, and they are all awesome. this is one of my favorite series ever. if anyone wants to talk about it, feel free to add me <3

Panda | 14 comments For those of you who have read the authors other series, I understand that they are romantacy books, however, do they all tend to get sex heavy and take over the plot in the later books or are there any recommended series where the world building, character building and fantasy aspects of the novels remain the focus?

To be clear, in case I am sounding like a prude (lol) I am not worried if the novels have more sex as the characters get acquainted, I just want them to also continue on their journey, quests, monster fighting, etc as the main focus of the books. If that doesn't happen, i'd rather not get invested in the storyline to have it fizzle out on me. Thank you for any recommendations.

Stephanie M | 2 comments I read this for another book club a few months ago. It is very good. A story of love for family, for lust, for a community. The heroine has a true heart for people. I am in the third book of this series!

sheen | 1 comments I had ACOTAR on my bookshelf for close to two years before I decided to crack it open and oh my goodness. I had never been much into fantasy but the love this series has created for fantasy for me is INSANE!

I will always suggest this series to anyone ready to dip their toes in the world of fantasy reading!!

message 17: by JoJo_theDodo (new)

JoJo_theDodo | 322 comments I read the whole series this past year and I agree with some of the comments previously made about the amount of erotica that is included and how it tended to take away from the main journey of the characters. I enjoyed the story and the characters. I don't think it's something I would choose to re-read. This series would be good to make into a movie though and I'm surprised it's not already in the works.

Will think of adding this to my shelf. I have been seeing this book everywhere. Thanks!

Leice ✨ I think the initial read of this book, doesn’t illuminate. HOWEVER, the deeper you go into the series, you find a complete appreciate and new love for ACOTAR.
I’m actually looking forward to going back and rereading it now! I think it will light up more because I’ll pick up on all those secrets and hints that was overlooked initially

message 20: by Sleepingrose (new)

Sleepingrose Just finished this one. My cousin is a huge, huge fan of this series. She really, really wanted me to read it. So, I finally did, and really loved it. I will read the second soon.

As for the book itself, I knew it was Beauty and The Beast inspired, but I was surprised at the use of Greek mythology towards the end. Pleasantly, surprised. Because it had to do with my favorite myth. So, that made me happy.

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Shaw | 1 comments I agree with the comments on the erotic literature overtaking the main story. I’m on book three and it’s ever present so far. I understand the animalistic nature and magnetic call however I don’t feel it’s repetitively needed. Great series though and my first venture into this genre :)

message 22: by Sydney (new)

Sydney May | 2 comments Everyone has been telling me to read this series and I’m not disappointed. While the romance takes over at some points, the next few books in the series seem to have more plot.

message 23: by Katrina (new)

Katrina | 2 comments Ok finally got around to it… slow burn, but enjoyable read. I would however like to reassure everyone who was getting tired of the simplicity of this book that the second one becomes more exciting— so far.
Absolute great book for before bed to unwind!

Maryellen | 1 comments This book has been in my face everywhere and I finnaly broke down and bought it. Haven’t read it yet but I wanted to get some people’s opinions on the book. The spice level the plot the characters etc etc

message 25: by The Bibliophile (new)

The Bibliophile Baroness | 1 comments It started off ok but I didn’t like the last quarter of the book. I don’t get why people are so obsessed with this series, it wasn’t that great. Writing could have been better. I do like the idea of it (beauty and beast based plot) but there were a lot of parts that made no sense. It did make me want to read more fantasy romance however bc this genre is new and interesting for me. This was my first romance fantasy and I’ve read 5 others since this book.
