I'm a singer-songwriter as well as the Founder and Director of the Accessible Music Project (AMP) non-profit organization. AMP makes music more accessible by bringing local contemporary musicians to audiences whose access to traditional venues is limited. We pay the musicians well for we view this is a professional opportunity, not a volunteer duty.
I've recently finished a memoir of my 25+ year musical journey titled Play Something Pretty That You Like to Play. Beyond my journey, however, it's about America's musicians and how undervalued we tend to be today. It's about evolving our professional perspective to beyond traditional audience stereotypes; to be more inclusive; and, most importantly, to be well paid for doing so.
It's forward-thinking, controversial even. It goes against a great deal of the conventional sort of thinking that I've encountered among struggling local and regional musicians. Indeed, I'm convinced that it's this old-school perspective on the value of music and musicians to society that keeps musicians stuck.
I'd very much like to get a discussion going here if that's of interest to group members, because I would very much like to hear feedback beyond my hometown. To that end I'm happy to send advance paperback copies to a few members who would like to read it.
I'll pause for now and spare further description. I welcome any questions that anyone may have.
Thanks for your consideration,
Greg Allen Morgoglione
