I'm not sure if I will be able to find any children's books about this holiday here in the USA, but I recently learned about this from my Indian-American dance teacher (they celebrated Lohri this past week) and wanted to post. Would be great if someone can share more or find some books!

"Primarily celebrated by the people of Sikh and Hindu communities in the Punjab or North region of the Indian subcontinent, Lohri is a popular harvest festival of the farmers that is observed a night before Makar Sankranti and is also a traditional winter folk festival that commemorates the passing of the Winter Solstice while looking forward to longer days ahead as the sun journeys towards the northern hemisphere. Lohri is that point in time when the Earth is closest to the sun hence, the festival marks receding of the winters and the beginning of a new harvest season." -- Hindustan Times

And that's it for me. Though I'd be willing to use ILL if anyone comes up with something else that looks wonderful.

Yay, there's more than I thought. Thank you all for sharing.

My library has only one entry for Lohri, part of the book Winter Crafts Across Cultures: 12 Projects to Celebrate the Season -- I've put a hold on it :-)

Oh, I can order that, too! (Apparently the cataloger missed that tag.)

Same here. I didn't put a hold on it yet though. The weather has been too awful to go to the library.

Winter Crafts Across Cultures: 12 Projects to Celebrate the Season Well, this was fine, but nothing really new or exciting for me. These days, you can find so much online I find it hard to invest in a book like this for a personal library but perhaps a classroom educator would find it useful. The Lohri craft is making a bonfire out of wooden skewers and colored yarn. It is explained that the people of Northern India build bonfires for Lohri to honor Agni, the Hindu god of fire.
