Tr1sha | 346 comments Did you start our 2024 yearly challenge for Places A-Z? February is a month for reading for this challenge. Real place names & classic books only, please. If you don’t want to do this annual challenge, set yourself a mini version of the challenge just for February - perhaps 2 countries or 3 cities. Explore your own country or travel abroad, it’s up to you. Remember that a book can represent a number of place names, so choose carefully. For example, Steinbeck’s “Of mice & men” could represent C for California, A for America, or U for United States.

1. Lassie Come-Home by Eric Knight (1940) setting Yorkshire Feb 4, 2023 5*

Lassie was literally an "on the road" book. Every so often when life stresses abound, I need to return to heartwarming children's literature.

2. The Gentle Spirit by Fyodor Dostoevsky (1876) Feb 25, 2024 2* Russia

This is a short story I never should have read. It was depressing and did me no good.

Rosemarie | 363 comments Jazzy, no worries.
I do hope you're feeling better.
I had a pair of Hush Puppies back in the early 70s. They lasted a long time.

I never had any - but the adverts were cute!

I had a Hush Puppy Box as a kid with the dog on the lid and kept all my treasures inside.

That’s a shame, Kathy - but you are still a long way ahead of me! I’ve spent ages trying to decide what to read instead of actually reading.

Kathy E | 144 comments That's easy to do, Trisha. I'm reading all kinds of other books but haven't gotten to this challenge yet!
