I always thought love was stupid. An allusion of sorts. But until the day I have been dreading what happened I knew Love would never be in my favor.
The Gifting Ceremony is here. The day most people dream or dread of. I dread it for I know nothing of our gifts. Sometimes we are granted powers that reflect who we are. But for me I know it won’t be a pretty gift.
I got dressed in a simple green color and it was noticeable. My foster siblings got dressed in the gods colors. Probably to show the gods their devotion. I hate them with all I am but I must care for them. We entered our carriage.
We rode to the Palace of Gifts. Where the gods will grace us with gifts. This day was the reason my parents died. The reason my brothers and sisters died. All because of an angry god. Thasos, god of Fate and Sun. The promise and curse he placed upon my mother, upon my cursed MOTHER!!!
We arrived at that beautiful glass castle of the gods. Where treaties of wars of the gods were signed. Where the lovers of the gods died. And where my mother stood bravely against the gods itself.
The castle was beautiful, surrounded by flowers and trees. But deep in the beauty are lies and secrets. We entered the grand hall where all eligible novices were. I headed toward the assigned seating where I sat next to Ambrose Celter. One of the most skilled novices of his generation.
When we said our prayer to the gods Lorana came down. Lorana goddess of gifts and joy. One by one we went up to the ceremonial platform to receive our gift. When I heard it I knew my life would change forever.
“Astra Calaveena, step forth and receive your gift.” Lorana demanded. I stood up with shaking hands and went forth to receive the curse I know I will get.
“Astra Calavena, you have served our kingdom well for your sixteen year season. Now I give you the gift of.” But before she could give the room went dark and none and behold Thasos came.
“Ah, Astra Calavena as I live and breathe.”
“What have you done to them!” I yelled at him but he formed chains on my hand and I stopped moving.
“I have done nothing, Dealan-dè. I simply made time for them.” He said.
“Thasos, what is the meaning of this? You must unleash the spell and let me give Astra her gift.” Lorana demanded.
“Oh, my dear goddess, do you know who this girl is?” Thasos looked at me with such discuss it scared me.
“What does that half have to do with this situation!” Lorana said with some annoyance in her voice.
“Well she is Laila Calavena's daughter. Your daughter Lorana.” Thasos said. Lorana stood there shocked.
“Now I must take my leave. Goodbye Dealan-dè I do hope you enjoy your gift.” Then He vanished into the air. And with it went away the spell. Lorana was speechless at first but then acted like nothing happened.
“Astra Calavena, I give you the Gift of the Night.” And when her hands were placed on top of my head the room went dark. And I knew I have been cursed for all of my eternity.
The room went silent when we saw Thasos God of Sun and Fate came to me.
“Astra Calavena your gift is the Night you will live in my temple and I shall show you the powers of your gift.” Once he finished saying those words. The ceremony was finished. And I will spend my days living as his prisoner.
