Hi Carley, welcome to the group! I recently finished a contemporary YA book:
Jane and Austen by Stephanie Fowers it's a light, witty, romantic comedy. I really enjoyed it. I like to use stand alone books to get over book series hangovers-lol.
Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1) by Robin LaFevers combines fantasy with history from late Medieval England.
The first book in one of my favorite YA series is
Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare. It takes place in London 1878.
Other historical books I enjoy are by Rhys Bowen. She writes the Molly Murphy series set in early 20th century New York City and The Royal Spyness Series. This one is set primarily in England after the depression.
A few of our members are authors and they have some great books too. I could go on forever making recommendations with my favorite YA fantasy books. Send me a friend request and take a look at my favorite YA series shelf on my home page and the other books I've read.
Keep us posted with what you read and what you enjoyed and have a great vacation!

Colorblind Hi Carley, my book Colorblind has been a favorite read in many high schools in Northeast New Jersey, and considered a cross-over book. It's a realistic multi-cultured story involving a white suburban kid and a inner-city black young man. Not sure if it fits your genre desire, but a quick read for ya! Thanks for letting me pitch it! LolPS: Great name! You share it with my daughter!
If you're still looking, I just read One of the Guys and I thought it would be a great read for travel or summer. It's sweet and light, romantic but not sappy. Let us know what you read when you get back!
I think I am going to read Howls Moving Castle. It got awesome reviews. I saw the the movie a few years ago and loved it. The movie is an animation masterpiece by Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. The book was originally written in English.
