This is one I've always meant to read and never did. I will definitely add it to my To Read shelf.

Like some of the members who commented in the "Book Suggestions" topic, I don't remember ever not reading a high school assignment. Selective memory can be so good for self-esteem! I chose this one because it shows up on high school required reading lists and it was written before I went to secondary school, and so it might have been required...Megan's first sentence sums up my reaction perfectly. The prose style is spare and powerful. Someone who saw me reading it said that it takes exceptional skill to write books that young adults will actually read, because they won't tolerate any drivel. This is a drivel-free zone.
My father was in the high school class year one later than these boys. I've been reflecting on what it must have been like to live through senior year knowing that the draft awaited you with your cap and gown. I wish I had asked him.
36 out of 50/52.
