Sooo I'm watching the LOTR movies for the first time and I'm wondering.... is anyone else angry about how they portrayed Faramir in the movies?

Like in the books he is so sweet and barely tempted by the Ring at all... whereas in the movies he actually tries to capture them and bring the ring to Gondor??

yes you're right, I also don't like how they portrayed Boromir as kind off evil. He wasn't. And Denethor wasn't as mad in the books either.

apart from that the movies are amazing.

(would've loved to see Tom Bombadill though)

Ugh that's so true! Tom Bombadil is the best and the whole scene in the old forest with old man willow could have been really cool.

I do understand their viewpoint that he doesn't really contribute to the plot though :/

it would love to see Tom portrayed on screen. they left him out in the 1978 animated movie and the BBC radio adaptation as well. always for the same reasons(plot and time restrictions) but it would be awesome! I do agree with you about the movie version of Faramir. I prefer the book version. he is just a better person and more likable in my opinion on that version

I was talking to my brother about this topic, specifically Denethor's portrayal, and he said he can never remember his name. he just calls him the "cherry tomato guy" that definitely shows the impact the movie made on his character lol

Haha, I actually haven't gotten to that part of the movie yet so I can't comment on that specifically, LOL

So far other than Faramir and the missing tom bombadil I am enjoying the movies though. They did a really good job on the characters of the Fellowship imo.

No more spoilers from me then! I agree the characters are done very well. I could not picture any of them being played by anyone else. (Did you know Aragorn was originally casted by a different actor?). are you watching the theatrical or the extended editions?

And yes I had read about the whole saga of them choosing an actor for Aragorn and I'm so glad they ended up with Viggo... he is SO perfect for the part.

I could not agree more! every time I see him in anything else I always call him Aragorn lol. I highly recommend checking out the special features, there long but very interesting, the amount of detail that went into them making the movies shows just how passionate they were about Tolkiens work

So I was wondering.... does anyone else often wonder how they would do in Frodo/ any one of the Fellowship's place?

I've been slowly getting through the movies ( like one a week) since they're so long and I can't wait to watch TRK because everyone says it's the best one. Which is hard to imagine because the first two were AMAZING.

Ok so halfway through The Return of the King movie and I have to rant. WHY DID THEY MAKE THEODEN AND DENETHOR ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING?!?!?!?

Ok, ok, Theoden isn't disgusting but he has SERIOUS ego issues 😭😭

And Denethor.... Jonathon I agree with your brother on this one 😝 What was with the whole tomato scene anyway?!?!? He's literally sending Faramir quite possibly to his death while just sitting there eating 🤢
