Well, since I'm to blame I might as well throw one out there since I've been considering a re-read of it anyway! Hero of Rome by Douglas Jackson. I loved that series.
He is on my trl for sure plus I need a new Roman series once I wrap up Robert Fabbri's Vespasian in the near future......

I loved it. Not your typical Roman stuff, less about legions and emperors, more about a band of washed-up gladiators.

Thanks for the recom, must admit I did struggle with his style of writing with his opener in the Kingdom series & had to abandon.

As you all probably read the books I have on my list, I suggest the new one in the Kingsbridge series by Ken Follett, The Armour of Light which I got for Christmas and want to read over the next time.

As a *standalone alternative I will nominate the top ranking Gates of Fire from our listopa.
