Once again, it is time to nominate a book - this time for April. Have you found a classic that you think others might enjoy? Then this is the time to nominate it.

You can nominate up to two books, written by women, that have not been read by the group for the past three years. They must be at least 50 years old. Also, please let me know if you're able to lead the discussion. Nominations will close February 15, 2024.

You can check our bookshelf for ideas and to see if a book has been read recently.

https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

I'm eager to see what you choose.

This is from Georgia Scott: I'd like to nominate Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse and for something shorter and quite different Francoise Sagan's Bonjour tristesse.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 417 comments I'm going to be too busy in April to participate, so I won't nominate anything, thanks.

sabagrey | 50 comments I'd like to nominate Natalia Ginzburg's Family Lexicon.

message 6: by Laura (new)

Laura (loranne) | 239 comments Ah Shirley - is something I always thought I should read - I might vote for that unless something 'better' is added. Thanks Nidhi!

I have been caught up in Hallmark Channel's Lovuary with Jane Austen. I won a giveaway from their Pride and Prejudice book club and watched Paging Mr. Darcy to see the props I won in the movie.
So I will nominate Emma by Jane Austen.

Granted I think I want to read about every book on this nomination list.

message 10: by Janice (new)

Janice | 57 comments I want to read three books that are listed so far. :)

Mary (alianthia) | 54 comments I wonder if any one likes Naigo Marsh ; her mysteries are very good . I see one listed https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2.... :)

If you want to nominate the book, you may. Some people might want to read a mystery.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 417 comments I’ll vote for The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, (a) because I think it’s the best and most interesting Bronte novel of all, and (b) because I’ve read it a few times in recent years and can discuss it without rereading in a busy month.

The winner is Chatterton Square. Carolien, are you wiling to lead?

message 32: by Jan (new)

Jan Z (jrgreads) | 450 comments It is a pretty obsure book where I live.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 585 comments It is on Faded Page (Canada's equivalent to Gutenberg)
https://www.fadedpage.com/csearch.php...

You just have to make sure your country's copyright laws are the same as Canada's.

I won't be reading unfortunately. I have a busy month ahead of me & I am starting to get overwhelmed by my reading goals. But I will get to it some day!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 585 comments No I didn't know there was a Canadian Gutenberg.

I'm in NZ so use the American Gutenberg, the Australian Gutenberg & Faded Page. I do still find some freebies on Amazon as well.

message 35: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn Do you have access to archive.org?

Yes, that's fine, Emily. If you'll set up a spoiler and non-spoiler thread.

I'm so glad other people want to read this one, I read Miss Mole last year which I enjoyed very much and a friend mentioned that she liked Chatterton Square even better, so I have high hopes.
