What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Read this story last year, 2023. It was in a collection of short stories. The boy is reading comics in the beginning, he insists his mom is one of the superheroes but she's ran away. In that universe though, there's a supervillain who seeks to destroy her. The boy has all the merch and stuff for his mom and everything. He's transported into the story (idk how) and the supervillain dies??? And leaves him to become the supervillain next, repeating the cycle forever.

if I remember correctly, the supervillain the boy replaces has a huge brain and his brain explodes? Its a whole mind-warp of a read I think its like multidimensional

I think the common factor was that they were all multidimensional or had a scifi element. it was more for teens than kids, and I can't remember the cover
