Hi all! I recently read a book by Pauline Gedge (ancient Egyptian historic fiction) and I was wondering if anyone in this group might be familiar with her. None of my book-loving friends have heard of her so I was thinking of creating a page for her on the Infloox site. Oh btw, the book I read was "The Twice Born" - pretty solid read, and I loved the attention to detail!

I've never heard of her. I will have to see if I can find some of her books. I am always eager to read more of this genre.
Child of the Morning is my favourite Pauline Gedge as well. She does some wonderful work, her characters are totally relatable - even the "bad guys". I am anxiously waiting on her next book, the final in the King's Man series. I made the awful mistake of reading the first two as they were released... waiting is awful!
Libbie you mentioned that Pauline Gedge wrote Stargate, this is true but the movie and the series are NOT based on it. Have you had a chance to read it? I found a copy to purchase but it has arrived yet.
I love Pauline's descriptions. I did have some trouble with a few things she had Hatshepsut saying ("She is not as beautiful as I...But she is well enough", or "This is the place to build my temple, as beautiful and sacred as myself...") The thing is, though, that though she says these things, you don't doubt for a moment that they are true,
Gedge is an excellent writer. I have her series on Kamose and Ahmose to start...

I am really wondering what you will think of Kamose. Such a brooding man. At least that is how Pauline Gedge paints him.I'm currently reading a book one of our list members has for free this month. The Life and Death of a Heretic: Akhenaten. I have just started it so I won't make any comments. She did say that she is playing fast and loose with some details to make a good story.
I had an unusual interpretation of Akhenaten in one of mine.
Let us know how you like the book!

Based on all your comments, I ordered The Twelfth Transforming. Just getting into it now. It's a much later Dynasty than the books I've written, but so far I find it interesting. More later...Lester Picker
The First Pharaoh
The Dagger of Isis
Well, I finished "The Twelfth Transforming" and, to be perfectly candid, I was a bit disappointed. The writing was, overall, quite good, with wonderfully crafted phrases and detailed descriptions. My main issues were with what Gedge chose to emphasize (lots of incest and palace politics) and what she did not emphasize (action and drama). Still, it was a good read and offered an interesting perspective on Akhnaten. Also a good sense of place and time.
True -- The Twelfth Transforming is a quieter, more "introspective" type of book rather than one that has a lot of action. I am currently reading The Maya Papyrus, and while it's a long one it is very good -- lots of action and drama, so readers looking for a more dramatic Egyptian tale will enjoy this one.
Lester, The First Pharaoh is on my Kindle and next in line to read. I'm excited that somebody finally wrote about Narmer!

Best wishes,
Les

Lavender:
Please let me know when the "scrubbed" version of The Sekhmet Bed is available. I'd love to read it, so I can jump into The Crook and Flail! Congrats!
Les
Hi, LesIt's available now! Unfortunately you missed its three-day free run on Amazon, but it's only $3.99. :)
Awesome, thank you! I hope you like it (though it's a book that tends to appeal more to women than men. The Crook and Flail might be more your speed.)
