I am so excited to add this one. I loved this book...

The Plot
A Russian aristocrat is spared from death and placed on house arrest while the Bolshevik Revolution plays out before him.

It will be on Showtime***- beginning March 29, 2024 with 8 episodes

to get viewing of the trailer ~~
IMDb - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8230448/...

*** I am not sure that just having Showtime will allow you to view this. I have seen where it was announced that ONLY"Paramount+ with Showtime" will show this. You can purchase Showtime as a Hub thru Paramount+ just a bit cheaper than outright getting Showtime. Maybe there is some connection with Paramount that will prevent the showing without going thru that particular Hub. Guess we will know at the end of March exactly what Showtime you will need to see this.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Well we will soon see if this is showing on any and all Showtime hubs or just on the Paramount+ Showtime hub.

Starts this Friday March 29th and I can't wait. Loved this book.

I loved the book too. Curious to hear about how well it translate to the screen.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments I was told in another group that this will be on the regular Showtime channel starting on March 30th.

Some people are not happy with who is playing the Count - Ewan McGregor - however he seems to be exactly how I pictured him.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Watched the first episode and loved it. Been some time since I read the book, but so far it seems to be following the book pretty well.

I was also reminded that McGregors real life wife will be playing in this with him.

"Rostov declares that “the heart must always be a priority,” and the love on display here is influenced by the changing times in which he and his friends find themselves. To that end, McGregor plays opposite his real-life wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Rostov’s love interest Anna Urbanova, a starlet with whom his fate becomes intertwined. "

Not sure when she first will appear tho.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Watched and enjoyed the second episode. Wish this one was going a bit faster. I hate waiting a week between episodes. However it does come on just minutes into Fridays. I was just ready to shut off my TV and go to bed when I realized it around 11:57 pm, so I waited and by 12:05 am on Friday the next episode was viewable. Couldn't resist - stayed up and watched it.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Geesch - I wish this one would just push thru all the rest of the show. This week to week stuff is frustrating. Still enjoying and know that I won't want this one to end...

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Anyone else watching this?

☮Karen | 78 comments My husband stopped watching it, wasn't true enough to history for him, so now I'm watching alone and finding the political stuff very confusing. May rewatch ep 4.
Now that Sofia has appeared, I'm hoping to enjoy the next episodes more than the last couple. I loved that part of the book. I don't even recall Mishka being in the book but I guess he was there.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Funny - I remember Mishka more than Anna ...lol! Who is Sofia?

☮Karen | 78 comments Daughter of Nina and ward of the Count for the next 16 years. Sofia comes to the Count as a five-year-old, turns his world upside down, and allows him to find his greater purpose.
It was at the end of ep 4.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Oh ok - I guess I didnt catch her name. Watching that one so late at night I am tired - I have re-watched one episode cause I didnt think I probably got much out of it.

☮Karen | 78 comments I rewatched a couple episodes.

☮Karen | 78 comments I loved ep 5 so much!
And I find I am able to watch these fresh off their release on Fridays. Don't have to wait til Saturday like I thought I would.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments I just watched episode 5 yesterday. I enjoyed it too.

See in my mind - having read the book so long ago - I was thinking that this time with Sofia was actually with Nina and that they just cut a lot of it out. But as it goes on I am remembering more and more.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Watched episode 6 - Sophia is grown now - getting so close to the end!

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Completed this series a couple days ago. Hated to see it end. But so good. Loved it.

☮Karen | 78 comments Eek I forgot about this last weekend! Since husband dropped out, he didn't remind me. Gotta finish it.

☮Karen | 78 comments I absolutely adore Ewen McGregor in this part. Perfect facial inflections. His accent and the tenor of his voice just resonate with me.
I was thinking he ought to read audiobooks. I'd be a follower.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Karen is that the way the book ended? (view spoiler)

☮Karen | 78 comments Sandi, I have a vague recollection of that being the case. I'll watch the last episode and see what I remember. I used to have the hard copy book but gave it to a friend.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Sorry didn't want to spoil it for you!

☮Karen | 78 comments No, you didn't spoil it. I remember when the book was over kind of wondering about the ending. The series made it clearer (view spoiler)

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments So I was right in my spoiler? The movie just added that one more scene?

☮Karen | 78 comments Yes, I believe so.

Elise Ann | 1 comments My sister and I finished the series the other night, going through a box of tissues in the last episode. What a wonderful series based on a wonderful book. The only disappointment for me was the ending -- I liked the book's ending, which left it to the reader to decide the outcome. The series, on the other hand, pointed pretty specifically to a particular outcome, given what Sophie said. Nevertheless, it was an incredible series and I'm so glad that they did it.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 619 comments Me too Elise - I still remember parts of the book - years after reading it and probably after reading 400 books since - and I think they did a great job with the cast for series. I hated waiting week to week to watch it, but then was also sorry when it was over.
