Heron has written standalone novels, short story collections, and several novellas throughout his career, but there are currently eight full novels in his “Slough House” series, listed in order of publication here:

With so much source material in the “Slough House” series, fans are likely wondering if the series will continue beyond Season 4. Though Apple TV+ has yet to officially renew the series for future seasons, Smith says he’d be open to making “really as many as Apple and Gary and the audience want.”
I so wanted to watch this series. However my in person book club read one of his books - one that was supposed to be a stand alone and I hated it! I did not like his writing style. I did not like the political espionage plot. I did not like his confusing story line. I had to check to make sure that it was not a book from the middle of a series - it read like it was. But no, it wasn't. So why did he write like I knew what the hell he was talking about? This is so NOT an author for me.

This is ready for it 4th season in over a 2 yr period. It is on Apple + and started on April 1, 2022. Having already shown 36 episodes in it's 3 season history there will be an additional 6 episodes for the 4th and 5th seasons. It is rated Mature Audiences. Season 3 premiered on November 29, 2023 and its finale just airing on December 27, 2023. Seasons 3 and 4 were filmed back to back so season 4 is already in the can. The 4th season is coming up in 2024 and the 5th season in 2025.
Apple TV+ will likely release Season 4 in Fall 2024 to allow sufficient breathing room between the show's latest two installments. Want to prep for Slow Horses Season 4 ahead of its release? Deep in the credits under "Camera Trainees" can be seen Alfie Oldman, Gary Oldman's son. He's worked on several movies that Gary starred in.
