I started this one today. Spoilers up to chapter 3:I miss the interactions between the Murderbot and her/his/its human crew. The awkwardness of those interactions was part of what made the first book so funny/enjoyable, Here with only "constructions", I'm missing that. Also, the story isn't very eventful or suspenseful yet in the second book.
Even so, I'm still enjoying it . . . just not quite as much as I enjoyed the first one.
I agree, Greg! I've greatly enjoyed the entire series, but I might be chasing the magic of book one a bit. :)

I guess since I went directly from book 1 to book 2, that might be affecting me too. I was alternately gripped or laughing throughout book 1 - both the humor and action were perfectly done. Book 2 is good but a bit different. I keep wanting it to be a continuation of what I loved so much in book 1, but I'm trying to just let go of that and enjoy it for what it is.
Book 2 feels like an episode in Santuary Moon might be for Murderbot. lol It sets up the relationship with ART too.

I agree; part of the fun was the awkwardness of the interactions between Murderbot and the crew. I felt Murderbot was alone too much in this one. Still, it was enjoyable to learn some more about Murderbot's past.
One minor annoyance to me was while listening to the audio, "Sec unit" and "Sex bot" sounds the same. This time there is a "Comfort unit" (aka sex bot) as part of the plot, that every time I heard "Sec unit" I'd be confused as to which one was being referred to.
I'm at the beginning of chapter 5 now, and things have really picked up with the new human team in the mix. Pretty sure I'm going to end up really enjoying book 2 as well!Hope, that's too bad about the audio thing - I can see how that would make things confusing!
I read this in August, so it's a bit soon for a reread, but my spoiler free review is here if anyone is interested https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...I liked the first one better, but this one was still good :)
I am up to date in the series and have liked all of the books in the series although feel like each book is pretty interchangeable rather than a progressive series, if that makes sense. I read this back in August last year so cannot remember all the details of it, but I have loved Murderbots interactions with people and the relatable way that they would rather be as anti-social as possible and just retreat from everyone into their own little bubble of TV (reading, in my case).
I liked this better than I thought I would. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue, because some of the stuff I liked best from the first book was resolved.
I think I liked the second one better. ART was fun, as was the reluctant sense of duty to the humans.
I loved ART and their sense of humor in this episode.
I'm also caught up in the series but I've enjoyed re-reading them as they get chosen for botm's.
