hi! i thought it would good to make a new discussion on how to start annotating.

i started annotating to tab moments that made me feel sad or happy. And that quickly grew to tabbing fantasy books for lore/plot or just doodling hearts everywhere. 🥰

getting started:
buy any tabs, a black no-bleed gel pen. and if you're ocd (like me) a small ruler to underline perfectly. while you are reading if something makes you happy-tab it, makes you cry-tab it, the quote is beautifully written-tab it. i think you can find a pattern lol. if you want to match the tabs with the cover of the books i like to follow the color gradient where the darkest color is for sad/angry moments and lighter colors are for romance/fluff. and the medium shade be plot/lore/quotes.

but a good color code to start off with is:

red ❤️: angry/confused
orange 🧡: spice/or if no spice do possible foreshadowing
yellow 💛: happy/friendship/funny
green 💚: plot/lore/mc moment
blue 💙; sad/relatable
purple 💜: quotes u luv
pink 💗: romance/fluff/sweet

also if u dont rlly care abt those tabs u can like customize it for urself; like if u dont like fluff u can change that tab to be like 'good descriptions' or wtv u like.

also, if u dont want to use a ruler i just use a study bookmark (u can also use the ruler as a bookmark lol)

I match all my tabs to my book covers!! For example, the Queen of Nothing by Holly black has all blues, purples, a gold and a blood red. One color for plot, one for characters (new ones or developments), one for quotes, and one for scenes I like! Sometimes even a fifth for world building if the setting is complex<3
