This thread is to discuss The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the first book in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams.

This book is hilarious! I initially wanted to skip this buddy read because I already have too many commitments, but it turns out I can't resist joining! I first read this book in my thirties and revisited it again in 2020. Unfortunately, the second time around, I borrowed an ebook from my library, and their version was more recent, meaning it was more politically correct. However, fortunately, I discovered that I still had my paper copy from 1992 and am eager to read it again! I hope it's alright if I join you.

Has anyone watched the movie? I haven't since I always wanted to read this one and I don't like doing both.

I’ve watched two different movie versions of this book but never actually read it. This one is one of the first on my list for this month

I think I'm going to go ahead and start this one tonight . Everything I'm reading feels heavy right now, and I need to balance this with something that's more fun!

I finished through chapter ten today, so I’m really in the thick of some action. Some of this is hilarious. I’ve grinned reading it. I do wonder (view spoiler)[ why Ford chose to take Arthur with him. Was it out of friendship or did he want to preserve an Earth specimen? Or was it something else? (hide spoiler)].

I came back to this one and read through chapter 21 today. I just wanted to stop in and say how much I love Marvin. He’s my favorite “manically depressed robot” ever!! 🤣🤣

Hello! I started the book yesterday. I'm fighting a cold so I can't concentrate on reading much, but definetly loving it so far 🛸

Finished this one. Thought it was hilarious! I’d love to read the second book if anyone else wants to continue the series.

I just ordered the second one even though I've only read until chapter 7. I will propably be on board, but I'll let you know 100% after I finish it.

Finished! Still hilarious even though it was my third reading. I will certainly continue the series but won’t be able to do it before June. So, you go ahead and I’ll join you later.
