I've wanted to read this memoir from George Takei for such a long time. I'm glad I finally did.

Takei shares his very personal story of spending 4 years in Japanese internment camps during WWII. He and many others in the camps were children, and the conditions were appalling. The strength of his parents shines through this book, along with the sense of community built in the camps.

He went on to enormous fame, playing a major character in the original Star Trek series and movies. He's used his platform to bring attention to this shameful chapter in American history.

The legal background was fascinating - it’s so well woven in to his story, especially as various edicts had different effects on his parents.
