I have already read the book. It came in early from my library and I read it in a couple of days. It is very short, and it pulled me in to finish the story. A mystery not a spy novel, but George Smiley is in it to help solve the murder.I usually do not like to read books with an English school setting, but the writing was good and the characters were interesting, if not always likeable. I loved Miss Brimley! She had worked with Smiley doing spy stuff in WWII, and she's the one who calls him to get involved in the murder case. I don't know if she appears in any other Le Carre books, but I'd like to read one about her spying days during the war.
It will be interesting to see others' opinions of the solution to the mystery. I gave the book 3 stars, which I define as being good, but not great. It was still entertaining to read. I hope others will enjoy it.
I am excited for this one. We read one of the Smiley spy books earlier and I was intrigued that this one was actually a murder mystery. It may take forever for my copy to come in. WHO KNOWS?
