Sav | 5 comments I’m on page 281, with the big reveal. So even do not read my next sentence unless you’re comfortable with a big spoiler and/or have already finished. Going to type another sentence or two to hide the spoiler a bit deeper— but how on gods green earth did Erin survive a week tied to a chair? She lived on baby food and was already malnourished and abused. And now we are supposed to believe she didn’t have food or water for a week and survived?? I’ve been with this book up to this point. I didn’t have major issues with any storylines or plot holes. I was rooting for Alix fairly quickly. But this part has broken the reality of the book, which is one of my biggest pet peeves. Authors have to stay true to world building. And if you aren’t building a world, and writing in the context of our own reality, then stay true to that.

So I’m a bit upset. I still have to finish the book, and it won’t entirely ruin it for me. But also a major “what?!” moment both because I didn’t think Erin was alive and in the house, but I also don’t think realistically she would still be alive.

Sav | 5 comments Finished the book — and wow what a twisted mind game. At the end it was so convoluted that I couldn’t tell truth from lies. It really earned its title in the end. I did enjoy this book, but it was a stressful read nearly the entire time. Not an escapist book, and with very little happy moments. I’m also going to say it — whether Roxy actually killed Brooke or not, I’m fine she got away with it. Maybe Roxy and Erin lied and put the blame on their mother. Maybe their mother is so deluded she can’t even tell fact from fiction in her reality. But as the book stands, in this self contained world with no further repercussions after the last page, I am happy Roxy and Erin get a clean break together. Regardless of what happened in their past. Death is a clean break.

I like how you get super invested and convinced that the husband is terrible and all that before you find out that for real, none of it is true.

Sarah | 6 comments This was a great book, it was my top book from January this year!
