Finished Finders Keepers today. A very quick read due to Stephen King's amazing storytelling ability. Have not read Mr Mercedes so references to that book went over my head. Can be read as a stand alone but in hindsight maybe should have picked up a copy of Mr Mercedes first. Fantastic premise for a story that had me totally absorbed for the first three quarters of the book. A bit violent at times which isn't unusual for King. The climax for books like this can be difficult and for me it was a little too "beyond belief" and didn't quite work. Still an engrossing book from start to finish.
I read Finders Keepers in the past. I have had it on hold at the digital library since the first of February. I will read it and join discussion group if it becomes available for rental.I will have to sit out this month if it does not. Thanks
Currently reading Finders Keepers, so far I am enjoying it. The violence King writes is excellent, looking forward to getting to the end
Finished Finders Keepers last evening. Please see my review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Many Good Reads to You!

Actually the third book in the Mr. Mrecedes (Bill Hodges) Trilogy is END OF WATCH. Holly is a sequel to the trilogy - sort of, though it does stand on its own. Check out End of Watch... I loved it... and I think you will too. Plus you get more of Bill Hodges and Holly and Jerome.

Thank you for the clarification. I surely will be reading END OF WATCH in the very near future. Also, hope to be seeing more of Holly, maybe in her own series?
I won't be reading this one with the group as I've already read it and have so many other things to get to this year. I will say though that of the Hodges Trilogy I definitely thought this one to be the best (both in terms of writing and in terms of sheer entertainment). I highly recommend the Will Patton read audio books on this series. They are extremely well done.
Hi Nick,Saw your intro on the Group Introductions page, Welcome! It looks like you rated this thriller of a read with 4 stars, I agree. Am looking forward to reading your review. I just joined goodreads in Feb. There are so many groups to choose from. Several mystery/thriller groups each with its own flavor and assorted unique members.
Have a good time and many Good Reads to you!
Based on the group's comments, I think I should read Mr. Mercedes before diving into this one. I remember it being the book of the month a while ago, but I ended up not keeping up with that reading. I'm eager to read it, though; the comments all seem very positive

Well worth the read... also sort of an homage to novels and great writing n general.

Yes, Nick is a popular and handsome moniker, it would be helpful if the Nick names had distinguishing alphanumeric identifiers, imho.
Hi everyone. I read the book about a month before I joined this group. I like it but preferred Mr. Mercedes. Here is my review of Finders Keepers: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... I recently picked up End of Watch. I looked forward to getting to that in the near future.
I am reading along again this month. Looks like I just remember the very start of this one and the very end. Haven't the foggiest yet where it is going to go in between!I thought (and still think) the setup for this is SK telling us he's got a stash of DT stories and is basically issuing a come and get em if you think you're 'ard enough.

All right.
Lol other Nick is definitely the OG. I’m new to the group. If it’s easier y’all could call me Nic 😆. Just don’t call me ick instead 😂😂😂
I read this one a couple years ago and while I absolutely enjoyed it, I have to say it was my least favorite of the trilogy. Probably due to Bill and Holly hardly being in it!Also, OG Nick should be referred to as Mr. Iuppa....

I absolutely loved the first in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy. This one felt like King kind of manipulated a story to incorporate our three. The final installment of the trilogy felt very different because of the psychological "feel" to it. I think this is the strongest of the three as a result.
Have you read END OF WATCH, the third in the trilogy? What did you think in comparison with the first two books in the trilogy?
HNR, no spoilers please.

Wow! That's an honor.

I liked them all... though I'm partial to FINDERS KEEPERS in spite of the fact that there's so little Bill and Holly. I just like the story and the homage to writing and the value of books.

Hi Fellow King Readers,I have finished my reading this month earlier than normal, but that's because "Finders Keepers" was a fast and enjoyable ride for me.
My review is posted on the following link, however, I suggest that you will most likely want to finish your reading of the book before looking at it. I don't have spoilers (I believe), but having read it first the context of my comments will make more sense. And as you can tell, I liked this one and I like the Bill Hodges trilogy.

Best wishes and good reading, everyone!

Love your reviews Scott, and again you hit the nail right on the head. King's secret sauce and all. I liked this book a lot and am happy to see the high marks you gave it. Thank.

Thanks Nick. I always appreciate your comments and feedback. I really love the Bill Hodges trilogy, and mostly for the reasons that i described in this review, including King's secret sauce.
I would also add that I have been getting some tough questions and feedback on my last month's review of "Revival" of which I would say was respectfully asked and given. I would even say that it was probably dell deserved. I should have been clearer that my review was 2.5 stars not 2.0 (oh how I hate that Goodreads does not have a rounding function...) but that probably wouldn't have made much of a difference anyway. Most reviews for the book were 3 to 4 stars, or even higher. My lower score was definitely in the minority. I'll read it again in a couple of years and see if my taste has changed.
Either way, I love reading Uncle Stephie and being part of this discussion group, reading and exchanging different thoughts on King's work. I've been reading him about 45 years now and I won't be stopping anytime soon (or at least as long as I am living).
Until next time, best wishes and good reading, Nick!
Is it a thing to call him Uncle Stephie? My friend who is a big fan but not in this group calls him that too lol
Jennn wrote: "Is it a thing to call him Uncle Stephie? My friend who is a big fan but not in this group calls him that too lol"Great question. King has referred to himself at times as "Uncle Stevie" and it has been picked up many in his fan clubs and discussion groups and at times, I will throw it out too. Hopefully it's seen as a sign of respect and belonging.
Best wishes!

Good reading to you too, Scott. FYI - take a look at Dead of Winter. Hell of a book... at least so far - I'm halfway through.

Will do. Right now I am halfway through C.J. Box's "Free Fire", book six in the Joe Pickett series. I consider it a changeup...
Finished with Finders Keepers. Great ride—little wonder I tore through it in a couple of days first time around. Not sure why I only remembered two things about it:(view spoiler)
This reread has elevated the Hodges stories for me. Top stuff.
I read this recently, in preparation for reading Holly, and I really enjoyed it.Someone in the group had been talking about a series based on the trilogy, and that turned out really well. While I preferred the books, the way that the show runner portrayed the situations, visually, was very creative. I think it was on Hulu, if I remember correctly, if anyone is interested. It was 3 seasons and covered the entire trilogy, including this book.
Finders Keepers was different from what I expected largely because the set up didn't revolve around Bill Hodges and the characters from the previous novel. But the first half was nicely tied in with Bill Hodges and the setting of the previous novel in an impressive way. As such, I did enjoy King doing a different sort of sequel, while still expanding on the characters of the first novel. I didn't think that Morris Bellamy was as interesting as Brady Hartsfield, but his story was intriguing. While I would argue that Pete Saubers and the whole discussion about writers, writing, and readers is a large part of the heart of the novel.
Really enjoyed this one, but a hair beneath the previous novel. Will read the third book of the trilogy when it comes up. ;)
