I enjoyed Mystic River some years ago so thought I’d try another Lehane book. This is about US Marshall and his partner who go to an island housing a hospital/prison for the criminally insane, to investigate the disappearance of a female patient. Sounded like good escape, which is what I was after. I was disappointed to find too many dream sequences, which I never like, but I kept going, intrigued for a while to see what would happen. About three quarters of the way through I was getting confused by all the twists but kept going to see what would happen. I’m afraid I found the ending a cop out. Wish I hadn’t picked this one up.

Oh, Susan, I am sorry that this was not a good read for you. This is one of my favorites -- who is left at the asylum/island? Who is the crazy one? He has some other good ones. I do know the feeling - expecting so much, getting so little. sort of like a blind date. peace, janz
I have never read the book, but this is one of those movies that anytime it is on TV I have to watch it. I love it! Have always wanted to read the book, but I already know all the twists so I wasn't sure if it would be enjoyable to read. Sorry you didn't enjoy this one.
I've read a number of Lehane books and enjoyed them all until this one. I felt much the same as you Susan and I have Lehane books on my tbr but haven't read another since that unfortunate experience.
