Ellen | 3574 comments Captain Charles Hunter prefers the term 'privateer' to the more apt 'pirate' to describe his vocation. With the permission of the less than scrupulous governor of Port Royal, Jamaica,in 1665, Hunter assembles a rag tag crew of seamen to assist in a raid of a Spanish galleon anchored for repairs in an impenetrable cove of Matanceros. The island is heavily guarded but the temptation of the galleon's reported treasure is enough of an enticement for Hunter to risk his life and that of his crew.

This pirate story has everything you can imagine a swashbuckling tale should have: sea battles, sword fights, a hurricane, an island of cannibals, duplicitous men and even a kraken. That's a lot to crowd into one story. This is certainly not my genre of choice but it was ok.
