Loosed in Translation discussion

I am French and can read English. I have a taste for swedish literature but unfortunately cannot read Swedish.

Here's my question: in general, would you say it's better to read swedish novels translated to English or French?

Since Swedish is closer to English than to French, I reckon a translation to English would be closer to the original than a French translation.
Does it make sense?
