does anyone have tips on choosing your major, please? it’s coming closer and closer and idk what to do 😭
I'd say, go for a major you genuinely enjoy. It's a lot easier to hit the books when you're passionate about what you're studying. Sure, there might be some classes that aren't your favorite, but overall, your major should get you pumped up whenever you talk about it 😄.Another tip? Check out folks who are already in the workforce. See what they like and what they don't about their jobs.
From my college days (just finished my master's, so it's still pretty fresh 😂), I've noticed something: lots of people have no clue about the career paths tied to certain majors. Everyone's heard of lawyers, doctors, business/accounting, and engineering/computer science. But the other majors or even other jobs you could do with these majors above? Total mystery. We're in the dark about all the possibilities out there.
Take this for example: I took this amazing Art History class on the Silk Road my last semester. It was epic! We had a bunch of engineering and chemistry majors in there (I had a different major). Our professor dropped a bomb on us one day, saying, "Hey, we need you guys." We were like, "Huh?" Then she hit us with, "Do you realize we need chemistry/engineering majors to date these ancient artifacts?" Mind. Blown. None of us had even thought about that before. She told us on how museums have these massive labs where folks work with these stunning ancient pieces.
And one more nugget of wisdom: don't hop on trends blindly. Back in my freshman year, everyone wanted to study computer science for that fat paycheck post-graduation. But let's keep it real, not everyone was cut out for it or actually liked it, or found that fat pay-check. They were miserable and tried to put down the happy students that were majoring in something else (especially BA). They were salty to see others happy lol 😂. A bunch of them aren't even in the tech field now; they switched gears entirely for grad school or job.
If you're in the US, you've got the chance to try out different majors, especially you’re first year. Take different intro classes. I'd use that year to chat with people, especially professors, and grill them on what you can do with their major 😎
I just checked your profile, if you are from Canada then I don’t know how the uni system works there :/. But honestly pick a list of major that you find interesting and set up meetings with professors and ask them what you can do with their major. Another tip would be to go on LinkedIn and look for alumni’s with the same major that you would like to study. Look at what they are doing and send them a DM :). Some of them won’t answer but usually alumni’s are always happy to talk about their university years :), so they might help you and give you some advice
hi guys I didn't know which topic to put this in, but I'm taking the biology EOC in the beginning of May. (It's a freshman class for reference) I'm so worried! I do virtual school, but my teacher was not great and I feel like I didn't learn much, so I'm studying like crazy, and I started about 3 wks ago, but idk if I'm going to finish everything in time. I really really really want a 5 or at least a 4, so what tips do y'all have? How hard is it? Thanks in advance<3
