don’t typically read coming of age books because I don’t enjoy how most authors miss the mark with the teenage voice. In my opinion, authors tend to make teenagers and younger kids sound like small adults instead of children or teenagers having more wisdom than anyone usually does at 15 or 16. John Green, I think, gets the voice of high school juniors and seniors pretty well and the discussions, problems and social situations of these boarding school teenagers are typical of teenagers everywhere. School, friends, relationships…parents, falling in love, jealousy. This book touches on the experience of these students as they face life changing trauma and the unanswerable questions that a significant trauma can bring.
