Ronan Here is my review. Spoilers included

So I really enjoyed this book. I didn't love it as much as I though I would but I really liked it. I ended up giving it a 4/5 stars.

The plot twist was kinda a surprise, but I could start to see it coming before it did. Maven was just being to perfect, and things were happening to well. They were just getting away with to much even under the Queen's nose, so I did start to thin something was happening but it did. I also kinda know that Shade was probably still alive because he had powers like Mare.

I feel like things have start and stop points. Like we would be lots of action then it would slow down to almost nothing then pick back up suddenly. I would have like more character building and development, but I still think there was alot that happen in the story. I can't wait till the second book though when we will learn more about the world and what is going to happen in the war.

I also wish we would have learned more about the history of the world. We learned a lot about the war and how it started but not enough about how the silver bloods came to the world. I also didn't really see a love triangle. I felt like she cared for Maven but never really loved him. I really only could tell she loved or like Cal.

Overall I don't think the book is being over-hyped. It is a great book and I think the series is going to be amazing.

Coda (erifnidne) I've tried reading it today but it's going really slow. Betrayals not really my cup of tea, you know? But did you think that the first meetings for Cal and Farley were really abrupt and under developed for being really important characters?

message 20: by Bailee (new)

Bailee (baileeamorette) I've already read Red Queen this is my review:

** spoiler alert ** So, it was kind of predictable but a lot of it wasn't. I knew from the second that we were introduced to Cal that he was a prince or something was special about him bc you don't just throw mysterious good-looking guys into a story for no good reason. I also knew that Maven was straight up evil from their first conversation. BUT I didn't actually expect him to go through with everything I mean jeez that was overkill. The whole classist separation between the Reds and Silvers is really believable despite how intense it seems sometimes. I was shipping Cal and Mare from the second he grabbed her hand and called her a thief but they seem to want to fight their sexual tension so that's no fun. Also, I really really hope Cal's uncle is still alive because I loved him and I feel like Cal really needs someone in his life to help him especially since Maven and his mother made him chop off their dad's head. Not cool. Overall the book was amazing. I didn't want to put it down. This was totally amazing like a mix between Shatter Me and Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Silvers are totally the fire-nation trying to control all of the other benders and non-benders (Reds + whatever the hell Mare and her brother are) through force and manipulation. All of the diversity with the powers reminded me of Shatter Me not to mention a prince (Cal/Warner) falls in love with a sad miserable little girl that doesn't understand her powers (Mare/Juliette). Definitely would recommend this series to absolutely everyone. I just hope that she ends up with Cal and there isn't a stupid love triangle between Cal/Kilorn/Mare because Kilorn is definitely in love with Mare and Mare totally thought about having his babies that one time. No thanks. For once can we just avoid a love triangle at all costs and KILL MAVEN. That is all I ask of the sequel.

I agree completely! I feel like a prequel is much needed. Just a little novella about how all of this mess happened!

message 22: by Coda (new)

Coda (erifnidne) I finally finished this! I apologize for the horrible organization of my review but here it is: And there really aren't any spoilers, I just use their names.

Okay that was really pointless. The world Victoria made was full of so much potential and she had to make this her story? I feel like I would have liked it more if it had a completely different plot. As a debut, it had pretty good writing that got better as it went along, and even though I absolutely hate love triangles I have to say this was one of the worst. I absolutely despise Cal and it makes me sad that that's who she will probably end up with, but I don't really care about her and her problems at all. Or Cals. And I liked Maven because he's a really interesting character and I hope he gets more insight on his true self in the books to come, but I have to say the secondary characters were written amazingly well because they were my favorite. Farley, Shade, Gisa, Kilorn, Tristan, Julian, Lucas, her parents, her other brothers, Will, and all of them really. Even the girl Colonel I really really liked. But the story barely focuses on them unless it's in regard to Mare and I feel like that's really narrow minded of her and shows what kind of person she really is. And her naivety. She should really just be with Kilorn, truly. And the next books should be in Shades point of view because he's like my favorite. And he was barely in it, which should show you the potential Victoria has as a writer. If only she could make More interesting and less annoying plots and main characters. The queen even had a more interesting background than the main characters! I'm sorry if this didn't make any sense, but it's just all coming out of me in a rush and my fingers can't keep up. Will I read the next one? I have no clue. I don't know if dealing with Mare and Cal is worth seeing very small amounts of the characters I love. Hopefully it's different.

Cassie Holcomb (anchoredbybooks) I'm not going to do an in depth review. Just my general thoughts.

I was only going to give this book 3 stars until I read the epilogue. The character I was itching to know about the whole book was there! Now I cannot wait for the second book! I want to know everything about Shade! I want more of Shade! I don't know why I was drawn to him since the moment his name was mentioned. I ended up rating Red Queen a solid 4 stars.

message 24: by Coda (new)

Coda (erifnidne) I love Shade too! He was my absolute favorite
