Spoiler: the protagonist a older, weird man takes on a huge debt to repair his found ship on a planet where they repair his ship but secretly hope he can't pay his debts and forfeits the vessel. The protagonist then proceeds to travel around the galaxy looking for opportunities to make large amounts of money. He usually finds these opportunities in the form of complicated challenges he helps to solve with the help of technology on his ship. The ship is something like an ark or seed ship and carries genetic materials and technology to create all sorts of organisms, from extinct animals like dinosaurs to virus and bacteria. As the story unfolds it becomes clear that the eccentric protagonist is very smart and almost always has the upper hand in negotiations. He makes himself a mind reading or emphatic cat that helps him figure out if his opponents are bluffing or lying.
